History
Bedrocan has its roots in the agricultural sector of the north of the Netherlands. They have specialised in the indoor growth of products under standardised, artificial circumstances since 1984. Utilizing the knowledge they have accumulated over the years they started the experimental growth of medicinal cannabis in the late nineties. After the first successful experiments they applied fo
r a temporary permit to grow medicinal cannabis at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. After a thorough screening of both the company and its personnel by the Dutch authorities, Bedrocan received a permit for the growth of medicinal cannabis in 2002. With this the company is in compliance with all the national and international requirements for the legal growth of cannabis. In 2003 Bedrocan was contracted by the Dutch government to produce and supply medicinal cannabis varieties Bedrocan®, Bedrobinol® and Bediol®. The growth process
The growth process at Bedrocan is completely standardised. Deviations in the process could affect the composition of the product. The entire growth process takes place in climate controlled compartments. For each batch the growth period and growth circumstances are identical and checked daily. Through an efficient work method and the structure of Bedrocan's facilities they can harvest a new batch of cannabis every week. Processing
The processing of cannabis flos takes place in a separate compartment of the Bedrocan facilities. Here the cannabis is dried, stems and leaves are removed and the remainder is packaged. All the aspects of the processing are in accord with the European GMP-standards (Good Manufacturing Practice). All products are then exposed to gamma-irradiation to eliminate any unwanted micro organisms, like fungi and bacteria. Quality
Bedrocan hold itselves to the highest possible standards of quality. During the entire growth process and the processing they dedicate themselves to ensuring that the levels of functional components (THC, CBD) are constant and that no harmful micro organisms find their way in to their products. Every batch is individually sampled and checked for the presence of pesticides and heavy metals. They are also checked on whether or not they meet the required levels of essential components (THC, CBD). The tests are required by the government and done by an independent laboratory
