This thoughtful recap from University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing captures the heart of what we’re building with EmpathyTech—a growing movement focused on innovation with empathy at its core.
Co-hosted by Pletly and NewCourtland in Philadelphia last November, EmpathyTech brought together researchers, technologists, caregivers, and care leaders to explore how we design technology that truly supports people—not just systems.
As the article highlights, the conversations didn’t shy away from complexity. From the ethical risks of using AI in caregiving to the need for co-designed tools that address real caregiver pain points, the panels emphasized research-backed, person-centered solutions.
One theme was clear: Tech must meet people where they are.
Whether discussing autism support or aging care, panelists called for solutions that value lived experience, respect identity, and reduce—not add to—caregiver burden.
We’re grateful to see these reflections shared by Penn Nursing and proud to continue building on this momentum.
Could technology, designed with empathy and informed by the experiences of older adults and their caregivers, help us to navigate the challenges of aging?...
