Empower Children of Manaslu- ECOM Every child has the right to education. Namasté! This page has been created by two people: Monica Urian and Mané Gurung. Monica lives and works in Brussels.

This page aims to support Nepalese children from the Manaslu area living in difficult conditions to remain in school though sponsorships, distribution of school supplies, etc. Mané is a mountain guide born in Singla, in the Manaslu area, currently living in Kathmandu. Since 2011, they went to Singla together once a year every year, and this is how this project was born. The aim of this page is to support children who are either orphans, abandoned by one or both parents, belong to the lowest casts (Dalit, Kami) or live in conditions of extreme poverty to get an education. Nepal has one of the lowest educational levels in the world, according to the UNDP- Human Development Index; the literacy level is 64,6% and the quality of public school education is problematic. This project currently supports children from the villages of Khorla, Singla and Mandré in the following way:
- sponsorships of individual children: 25 EUR/ month, all the money benefits the child by providing school uniforms and supplies, vitamines and medicine, food, clothes, shoes, hygiene products
- support for the whole school with school supplies, uniforms, toys, books, etc.
- distribution of clothes, shoes and toys to other children than the sponsored ones. We have some other ideas- whose realisation will depend on funding. If you are interested to join this project, please contact us through the messaging system to discuss about how you can help.

More news- from Khorla this time :the 25 children who graduated the 10th grade in Khorla and the 2 in Manbu received financial support to take the School End Exam from us.
This is like a Nepali baccalaureat. Without it, they would not be able to pursue their studies.
They must go to another region of Nepal for 2 months. We make sure they can pay their transport, accommodation, food and maybe even some private classes. This has become a tradition in Khorla, this is the fourth generation of kids we supported for the SEE, including during covid times.
Go kids, go! 🤞🤞🤞🍀🍀🍀🧑‍🍳🧑‍🏭🧑‍💼🧑‍🔬🧑‍🎤🧑‍🚀🧑‍🚒👮👩🏻‍🚒👮‍♀️

To go from the Laprak village to the Singla village, you need to go down down down to the river, and then up up up again, all this in 30°C because we left too late 🥵.
But the end goal is so worth it... 🙍🏻‍♀️🙎👧🧒 🌼🌼🌼💛💛💛

To go from Pokhara to the Singla village you need to take a local bus (sardine style 😅) then a taxi then a shared jeep (more sardine style) from 8:30 am to 6 pm!
Luckily Mane, our logistics manager is there, and Jite is helping with the bags.
First stop : the Laprak village and this lovely family with Asmita, Asbané and the little brother As Bahadur, living with their mother and grandmother (the father abandoned the family). I have been visiting them since they were little girls, I think the first time was 2011. They are very dear to my heart 😍

I'm back to Nepal and to the Gorkha area. Our activity in 2022 continued as usual, although I did not publish information about that.
Right now we are back to the villages and preparing a big distribution of food, school supplies and hygiene products.

Fresh news from Khorla : Jité had his second ear surgery which went well. Jité was almost deaf three years ago when we met him. His first ear surgery two years ago gave him back half of his audition. Now we hope he can recover all of it.
Sangita is also doing medical checks in the hospital, she hasn't been feeling great recently, we'll keep you posted.
