Japanese scientists created artificial blood that works for all blood types!
Have you heard of something called deoxygenated hemoglobin vesicles (or deoxy-HbV for short)?
It’s a new kind of medical technology that acts like fake red blood cells. Doctors are excited about it because it could help carry oxygen in the body—without needing regular blood transfusions.
Here’s what makes it special:
Deoxy-HbVs are super tiny and are wrapped in a layer (like a bubble) to act like red blood cells. But they don’t need to be matched to your blood type, and they don’t have to be kept cold like regular blood.
And here’s the coolest part—when they don’t have oxygen in them, they pull oxygen in from around them. That’s really helpful in places where oxygen is low, like inside some tumors or during a stroke.
Possible future uses:
• Helping with cancer by lowering oxygen around tumors
• Keeping organs healthy for transplant
• Treating strokes and heart problems
• Helping people breathe in places with low oxygen, like high mountains or during emergencies
In short, when real blood isn’t available, deoxy-HbV might be a new, fast, and easy way to help.
