When the Plan Changed, the Learning Began
The plan was simple.
Fly to Nepalgunj. Drive to Bardiya. Learn. Connect. Let the jungle do the rest.
On the morning of 19 December 2025, seventeen of us checked in at Kathmandu airport for the 10:25 flight. One colleague had already taken the road from Chitwan. Another was flying in from Pokhara. The group was aligned. The intent was clear.
Then came the waiting.
Delay announcements. Silence. More delays. Nearly four hours passed in the upstairs domestic lounge. An unusual coincidence unfolded there too. Rabi Lamichhane, just a day out on bail, was seated nearby, waiting for his flight to Bhairahawa, also delayed. It was a quiet reminder that uncertainty does not discriminate. Systems, weather, timing. Everyone stands equal before them.
Eventually, we had to decide.
Go home, or pivot.
This was the first real lesson.
In implant dentistry, indecision costs more than an imperfect decision. We chose to move.
Pokhara came up first, tempting but impractical. The only available flight was at 7:30 PM. Too much time lost. Then came Bharatpur at 2 PM. Without hesitation, we took it. No complaints. No resistance. Just flow.
That moment spoke volumes about the group.
Versatility and adaptability are not optional traits in implant practice. They are survival skills.
As we flew, the next question surfaced. Where do we stay?
Options were weighed. Barahi near the airport for convenience. Himalayan Sanctuary, farther away, deeper into nature, less predictable.
After discussion and reflection, we chose Himalayan Sanctuary.
And that decision changed everything.
Secluded. Silent. Nestled right beside the forest. No traffic. No distractions. No noise of human settlement. Just space. Breath. Perspective.
Another lesson surfaced quietly.
Choosing the right environment, tool, or system may not be the easiest option, but it brings lasting peace.
Exactly like choosing the right implant philosophy over shortcuts.
The hours there unfolded effortlessly. Conversations deepened. Dentistry was discussed, but so was life. Listening became effortless. Communication flowed without agenda. We were reminded that interpersonal connection is the invisible foundation of all clinical care.
It was also a moment of recalibration.
A pause from routine. A chance to realign values. Not as isolated clinicians, but as a team moving in the same direction.
An outsider, a professional from team sports management, observed us during this time. What struck him was not our technical discussion, but our cohesion. Competitors by profession, yet deeply respectful collaborators.
That observation carried weight.
This is healthy competition. Long-term teamwork. And when the patient remains the final outcome, everyone wins.
Then came the safari.
Quiet expectations existed. A tiger sighting. The unspoken hope. When it didn’t happen, something remarkable occurred.
No disappointment.
Instead, acceptance. Gratitude. Calm.
A powerful truth revealed itself.
Excessive expectations breed desire. Desire often blinds us to reality.
Doing our best karma without attachment keeps us in flow. The same principle applies to implant treatment planning.
Plan thoroughly. Execute sincerely. Let go of outcome obsession.
On the return journey, flights were again being monitored. Delays surfaced once more. And this time, they gave us something unexpected.
Time.
Enough to stop at Bhetghat. Enough to sit, eat, and truly relish the moment. A place we had rushed past on Friday now offered us quiet joy.
Another reminder landed gently.
When there is will, there is always a way. Delays don’t steal time. They reshape it.
What emerged from these three days was not a disrupted itinerary, but a deeper clarity.
Success belongs to those who stay anchored to their manifested goals while remaining flexible in their path. Those who aim beyond self. Toward better patient care. Stronger teams. And becoming better humans.
