This morning while doing my rounds to see a skin patient, I came across a moment that stopped me in my tracks. As I was heading back, I noticed a little boy, no more than a few years old, sitting quietly on a chair with a nebulizer in his tiny hands. He was all alone, calmly taking his treatment, without fuss, without fear.
At first, I was surprised to see such a young child managing it all by himself. My instinct was to look for his mother. Soon, we found out that she had gone outside to get his medicines — leaving him for just a short while, but long enough for me to witness this incredible sight.
It made my heart ache, because no child so young should have to handle illness alone, even for a few minutes. And yet, at the same time, it filled me with admiration. To see such strength, such patience and such resilience in someone so small is nothing short of humbling.
Life has a way of testing us — sometimes far too early, sometimes more harshly than we expect. But moments like these remind me that resilience isn’t about age, size or circumstance. It’s about spirit. And this little one, in his quiet bravery, showed more spirit than many of us do in the face of challenges.
I just wanted to share this small story with you all — because while medicine teaches us about diseases and treatments, it is patients like these who teach us about life. Life can be hard, unfair even. But what truly defines us is how we choose to face it.
