Living with the aftermath - PTSD in NZ/Aotearoa

3 November 2017, the event that happened on this day is the catalyst to what has been one of the most challenging times for my family.

My partner was driving the train that hit the mother and her 17yr old daughter. There are so many questions that are in my head even to this day, but the biggest is how could a mother hold her daughter on train tracks when a train is coming and not push her out of the way?!
Finding out the daughter was only 17 broke something inside my partner, our eldest child was 12 years old at that time and this was mind blowing for us both.

The pedestrians were killed after an incident in Papakura just after 11pm.

Passive suicidal ideation - when someone thinks about or wishes for death without actually planning to end their life. Passive suicidal ideation is distinctly different from active suicidal ideation. Active suicidal ideation is when you think about specific ways in which to end your own life. Put simply, active suicidal ideation involves a plan to harm yourself, whereas passive suicidal ideation does not come with any plan for su***de.
