Working with Parents in Psychotherapy
with Norka Malberg, PsyD
Friday 8 May · 9:00–10:30am (NZT)
Online
This online session introduces a mentalization-based approach to working with parents in psychotherapy, with a focus on supporting reflective functioning in the context of everyday parenting challenges.
Grounded in a developmental and relational perspective, the session will explore how strengthening parents’ capacity to understand their own and their child’s internal experiences can enhance caregiving and family relationships.
Drawing on key MBT principles, including mentalizing and epistemic trust, the presentation will offer a practical framework for navigating stress, uncertainty, and complex emotional dynamics in work with parents.
Through clinical illustrations, participants will gain tools to support parents across a range of contexts, strengthening therapeutic work with families.
Dr. Norka Malberg is a psychotherapist, psychoanalyst, and certified trainer and supervisor in MBT-C, MBT-A, and MBT-F. She is Assistant Clinical Professor at the Yale Child Study Center and one of the developers of MBT-C at the Anna Freud Centre.
