This is Alisha - she’s an absolute legend. Two years ago she did the Lightning Process with me due to being stuck with fibromyalgia. She immediately started to do better and she has gone from strength to strength. This past weekend she completed the 50kms Ultra Marathon Mont Blanc - this is what she said to me today.

“Just wanted to let you know I did it!! My cup is overflowing with gratitude, and I could really implement what I learned during the lightning process to manage my thoughts, stay positive and have an absolute blast out on the course!! Thank you again x

I used to think I would never get here, now I’m wondering what else I can do!! 💪🏼“

What a gal! I love seeing coachees kick their limiting beliefs to the curb and live THE abundant life.

Helen Sanderson is a psychotherapist and also known as ‘The Clutter Therapist’.

Helen simply states that clutter is usually a pile of decisions that haven’t been made! And clutter doesn’t just get in your way, it weighs on your mind. And because of that it can activate the stress response.

I’ve known this to be true in my own life. When I look around me and all I see are piles of admin or unfinished projects I sense my body shift into a mild sense of anxiety.

In 2011 a study at the Princeton Neuroscience Institute found that having clutter in sight can make it more difficult to focus . The more visual stimuli your brain has the harder it is to process thoughts - and it stresses the brain more.

So here’s some ideas to begin your clutter detox.

1) Break tasks into small chunks.
Rather than say I’m going to declutter my entire office, begin by saying I’m going to declutter my desk drawers.

2)Spend just 5 mins a day on decluttering. The thought of spending an hour or a morning decluttering can feel overwhelming but we can all give 5 minutes, and those 5 minutes can create a new habit.

3) Consider giving one item away each week. We often add to our environments rather than replace. Take a look around and ask yourself ‘does this have any use or value to me in any way’. If not, consider giving it away.

4)Donate clothes you really don’t wear anymore.

And remember that freeing yourself from clutter frees the mind. It creates a sense of peace and gives space for the brain to focus.

Decluttering can be a form of self care.

I really love this question from James Clear today. Mastering one thing is a way of keeping future options open, but when we’re always chasing the next thing we’re actually limiting our options for the future.
Reflecting on our habitual patterns provides great insight!

Yep! Yep! Yep! 👌🙌

Although this statement is particularly aimed at leaders in the workplace, I think we can all consider the difference this would make in all our relationships.
Any conversation - any interaction will be helped if we consider asking a question first.
I can often do it wrong - I’m a work in progress like everyone else but this week I took my own advice. It was still hard but the conversation went better. I was in a tricky personal situation and so when I opened the conversation I started with “can you please help me understand what’s been going on for you over the past couple of weeks?”
I then shut up and listened.
I had their perspective first and then I could steer the conversation in a healthier direction.
Try leading with questions …: it’s so much more productive, collaborative and respectful.
Not “why are you such an idiot?” That’s obviously combative …. But a genuine inquisitive question that deep down is communicating “I really do want to understand”.

In the Lightning Process Training we talk a lot about the importance of language and its effect on our brain and our nervous system.
Language is powerful and the words we speak to ourselves can either propel us forward or hold us back. We get to choose how we interpret situations and when we choose a more life enhancing interpretation then we gift ourself resources and feelings that will benefit us.
The above statements are great reframes! Love to hear some of your own.
Next LP training is Nov 8-10th - DM if you’re keen to know more.
