USES OF TRIPHALA:
Triphala is well-known to be a useful laxative in , however, there are many uses in various ways in which it is prepared.
1. For toothache: A little triphala, mixed with honey and turmeric, can be placed on the tooth and gum. This helps reduce swelling and inflammation, hence reducing pain.
2. For gingivitis and fresh breath, a few pinches of triphala can be added to water and used as a mouth-gargle, retained in the mouth. It is unpleasant, but it helps to reduce inflammation and check bleeding.
3. For chronic constipation, triphala churna fried in castor oil (eranda taila) can be taken internally. This is also excellent for related issues such as sciatica which arise from excess air in the colon due to constipation, as well as stiff neck.
4. For hair growth, good skin and eyesight, 1 - 2 teaspoons of triphala ghrita (ghee) can be taken daily with warm water. This helps as a rejuvenative.
5. For blurry eyes, tired eyes and such, a little triphala can be strained through a cheese-cloth to make a decoction of triphala water, which can be used as an eye-wash. This helps reduce puffiness, and also inflammation and helps cleanse the eyes of any dirt and such, especially during hay fever seasons!
6. Triphala and brahmi tablets may be taken together for allergies such as allergic rhinitis or hay fever on a daily basis. It also helps with related skin irritations caused by these.
7. For cuts and wounds, triphala can be used to help cleanse them and also in healing. A paste of honey, ghee, turmeric, and triphala, or simple turmeric, triphala and honey together, can help heal, reduce scarring and help with infections.
8. For dark under-eye circles, triphala mixed with honey and shatavari can be used, as well as on the face. Milk can also be used, and helps rejuvenate the skin and reduce pimples.
