I'm Nickie, a 200hr vinyasa flow teacher, as well as a prenatal yoga teacher. I'm also a dietitian, mad foodie and I love to travel. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I believe everybody can benefit from yoga in some way and every body is a yoga body. I would love to see yoga become more accessible to those who could benefit the most; those with mental health conditions, those who face hardship of any kind, anyone with a long-term health condition and both teachers and students within schools. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

A lot of people see yoga as a bunch of stretches and some ommm-ing. But there are various components to yoga and you will see there are ways you can introduce them into your life one small step at a time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What you might see online, on social media or in yoga documentaries represents only one small part of yoga. The yoga poses/postures, which are called asana, is only one of the eight components (limbs) of yoga. Also, a lot of the very 'flexible' postures are not going to suits most bodies in the western world.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Remember that flexibility looks different on everyone due to differences in bone structure, joint structure, muscles, ligaments, and also generally what movement you do daily. It would be rare for someone to be 'flexible' straight away and my focus as a teacher is less on flexibility and more on functional movement. I don't think it is going to help your life too much right now for you to be able to do the splits, but if you can work without getting lower back pain, or you can get up and down off the floor easily without aches and pains, that is far more beneficial to your daily life.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

VIRABHADRASANA I/A / Warrior 1 ✨⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
'Warrior pose' is something I hear so often when people talk about doing yoga or when they find out I teach yoga. They say..'do you do some warriors?' or 'I know warrior pose'. It is a foundational pose and part of the sun salutations so it is highly likely that if you've ever done yoga, you've done a warrior pose. But did you know there are actually three variations of warrior?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Also why 'warrior' when yogi's are meant to be anti-violence?One of the most revered of all the yoga texts is the Bhagavad-Gita. It's the dialog between two famous and feared warriors, Krishna and Arjuna, set on a battlefield between two great armies spoiling for a fight. It is a big read.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, as many people who practice yoga have never read (or even heard of the Bhagavad-Gita, at least you have now) then it takes a little different representation in class.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Vinyasa yoga is the main type of yoga I teach for all (expect pregnancy). Read on 👇👇👇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In this style of yoga each pose/posture is linked together and connected using the breath. The breath, either the inhale or exhale, leads you from one pose to another. This makes it a more dynamic and seamless style of yoga as you flow from one pose to the next. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

ADHO MUKHA SVANASANA / Downward-facing dog ✨⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's a resting pose did you know? Well when starting yoga and in those early classes, it sure didn't feel like a resting pose. Sometimes it can be too much on the wrists, or a wake-up call to how tight the hamstrings are from sitting at the computer for too long! Once you're used to it though, it sure does feel like a rest and a full stretch of the whole body.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you've got any issues with your wrists or shoulders you do need to be careful in downward dog. Also anyone with high blood pressure may not feel so good with their head below their heart. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Just starting out? I suggest private sessions to begin to make sure you feel comfortable in knowing what is ok for your body before diving into too many downward-facing dogs.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
