INCLUSION not exclusion.

This is the principle I follow when treating clients with gut issues.

Many people with gut issues are put on diets of exclusion when being treated.

The treatment protocol that I follow is a diet of INCLUSION. It is focused on incorporating foods that promote cellular repair and which enhance gut integrity.

The gut is intelligent, it has many built in defenses and mechanisms that aid it in functioning the way it should. By including foods rich in the necessary nutrients, the gut can return to its optimal state.

The vagus nerve is the main nerve of the parasympathetic nervous system, also know as the "rest & digest" system.

This system overseas an array of crucial bodily functions including mood, immune response, digestion and heart rate.

Both perimenopause and IBS have been associated with destabilization of the stress response system. This destabilization contributes to the symptoms experienced in perimenopause and IBS.

By strengthening, or stimulating the vagus nerve, the parasympathetic nervous system is activated and helps to balance this stress response, promoting relaxation, sleep, digestion and feelings of calm.

Have a look at my upcoming post to see how you can stimulate and strengthen the vagus nerve xx

Are you including protein to your morning meal?

Protein is important in the mornings, it increases sensitivity to your hunger suppressant hormones and it helps set your Circadian Rhythm which is essential in regulating various processes in the body.

Some easy breakfast ideas rich in protein include:

*protein overnight oats
*salmon quinoa breakfast bowl
*scrambled tofu on wholegrain toast
*black bean eggwhite omelette

How are you go to incorporate protein into your first meal of the day?

Our metabolism is influenced by a variety of factors, and therefore our 'ease' of losing and maintaining weight is also influenced by a variety of factors.

Leptin is one of our primary appetite regulating hormones, it inhibits hunger by telling the brain that no more energy is required.

Leptin is primarily made in fat cells and so as we gain excess weight leptin levels increase, however because there is so much circulating leptin the brain becomes less sensitive to its signals and thus our appetite increases.

Eating adequate protein is one way in which we can increase the brains sensitivity to this natural hunger suppressant.

Learning how to support the body's ability to balance energy is essential for long term healthy weight management and helps you get off the yo-yo diet train xx

Those are my WHY's for trying to make healthy choices now.

Whats your WHY, and what are you doing to get there?

Aligning nutrition and exercise through the menstrual cycle.

Phase 1 - Menstruation

The first day of menstruation is day 1 of your cycle and lasts approximately 5 days.

This is the first half of the follicular phase. Estrogen & progesterone levels are still low at the beginning of menstruation so energy levels can often be low.

Blood loss, and therefore iron loss can add to this fatigue, especially if you suffer from heavy periods.

Follow these simple guidelines to help you feel your best through this phase xx
