Darkstar Violet Mica... I feel an eyeliner recipe coming on...
This month is Maternal Mental Health. This also coincides with Maternal Mental Health Week and Day which also take place during May.
In many countries, as many as 1 in 5 new mothers experience some type of perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMD). These illnesses frequently go unnoticed and untreated, often with tragic and long-term consequences to mothers, children, and fathers alike.
From personal experience, alongside my work with Miscarriage Support Auckland back in the days before the website was written, PND was closely linked with miscarriage, and more common after having a baby that did make it through kicking and screaming, however would have health problems... with a common thread being Mum's wondering "what if" about their babies who didn't due to abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth and postpartum.
Another trigger is guilt, feeling guilty about their child being unsettled due to something they may have eaten or drunk whilst pregnant.
And then there's the difficult birth... the baby that took days and wore Mum out, or the one that put one or both of their lives at risk.
There are so many factors to consider, and the above doesn't include any preexisting mental health issues the mum may already be experiencing.
When it comes to Dad's, a factor can be about wondering if they're ready for the responsibility of supporting a new family, and sadly, some don't realise this until after Bubs arrives.
Luckily, we have science, nutrition and essential oils these days to help boost self-awareness and self esteem.
With pregancy supplements (Radiance do a really good one if PractitionerOnly options aren't available), the brain and body are supported with nutrients to help minimise the post natal hormonal drop.
With essential oils and Aroma Psychology, we can create blends that address the individual feelings that the parent is experiencing, because each person's scenario is different.
My favourite oils to use to counteract the negative feelings are :
* Neroli (grief, fear, anxiety, shock, emotional crisis, sadness)
* Petitgrain (exhaustion, depression, insomnia, disharmony)
* Bergamot (helpessness, apathy, exhaustion, grief, hoplessness)
* Cardamom (confusion, self-pity)
* Carnation (detachment, neglect, disregard, mental loneliness, self-criticism)
* Sandalwood (dwelling on the past, insecurity, distressed, uneasy, aggressive)
* Thyme (physical exhaustion, nervous debility, blockages)
* Rose (self-destruction, bitterness, resignation)
One I like to use is Ylang Ylang... especially with men. It helps bring out their nurturing side if they come across as being withdrawn or distant around baby, or are feeling left out.
Yesterday I posted my recipe for a moisturiser for mature skin on my Amor FB group as part of #MondayMakes.

8 Signs You Have A Gluten Intolerance, according to Science...
Hello fellow Amorians!
I've just put a post on the group page asking them what they want to see in their space.
I would like to keep the group separate from this Amor page, and am thinking of running some regular posts here... however was wondering if my idea of Manufacturing Mondays (or Monday Makes?) would be better off in the group where ideas can be discussed?
Please let me know your preference (and which name you like best).
It will be a combination of recipes and videos that will be posted each week.
I'm also thinking about Wellness Wednesdays for the group.
For this page my ideas are to do FAQ Fridays where i can post most commonly asked questions, along with new ones that you ask.
I'd like to do some posts on an essential oil each fortnight, alternated with a cosmetic ingredient, and throw in the odd clinical study, although maybe that should be in the group....
I would love to hear your feedback on this 😁
Do you get Food Cravings and wonder about healthier choices? This little chart may help 😁
I know, I've been quiet again. It's taking me days to update the mica listings... I totally underestimated how much work was involved with updating photos, ingredient codes, particle sizes and usages as well as keywords. Multiply that by 118 and hence my rapid speed of input... NOT 🤪
Here's one of my new colours. It's by KTZ and is a multicolour pigment that blends well into wet formulas. Oh yeah, I've been updating Manufacturers where I've been able to source them too.
Another story about the misuse of essential oils due to untrained sales people.
Please do not ingest any essential oils unless you have been prescribed them by a practitioner trained in essential oil ingestion. Self medicating is dangerous.
patheos.com Multi-level marketing companies like DoTerra and Young living promote the ingestion of their essential oils. However, they what they fail to disclose is that ingestion can lead to poisoning and death.

What have I been doing lately?
Creating a lymphatic drainage massage manual (I'm teaching it to a fellow practitioner tomorrow) and playing with mica colours with young Charlette as it's the school holidays.
This is the first of our fantasy series... there's 5 all up. Do you think you can guess the others?
My clinic hours over the next few weeks are limited due to my elderly mother injuring her shoulder, so I'm currently her chauffer taking her to medical appointments, etc in her mobility vehicle.
Sucks to be a paraplegic with bursitis in your shoulder! 😟
The upside is parking outside the door! lol
I'm trying to keep my calendar on here as accurate as possible, however she is springing some trips on me, so please don't be upset if I say I can't do your preferred time when you book. 💐
Blue Lotus Flower in full bloom
This is very interesting reading, especially when I consider how many hours I had to spend learning the effects of the chemistry of essential oils to achieve my qualification as a medical Aromatherapist.
Please comment below, I would love to read your thoughts, observations and/or opinions on this....

So this is the latest lot of idiot info doing the rounds... please do NOT use these essential oils on your infant or child. Some of these are for children 13+ years old!
A newborn does not need essential oils unless they are being treated by a qualified Aromatherapist who has studied the appropriate area in pathology as part of their diploma.
Applying essential oils neat can cause liver and kidney damage in adults.... how is a newborn baby going to be able to detox them?

Is it hot enough for you today?
I love the heat, don't like wind, although am thinking a sea breeze would be nice about now, however, we don't seem to have one today....
What's it's like at your place?
I've finished packing orders for today (and the courier has just collected) so am debating between retreating to my clinic and doing a workout followed by a meditation, or flopping into the paddling pool...
and I just have to share these pics of my gorgeous frangipani I took over the weekend as the buds started to open - it smells divine and I'm in a quandary - do I pick them and infuse them or do I enjoy looking and sniffing them?
(also playing with FBs new photo functions)
So, you know how I said before I don't use FB very often... well I've stuffed up my Inbox with the new Pages Manager app 😕, and have lost a message from one of you about wanting prices for ingredients for your daughter's project... ☹️😔🤒
I am soooo sorry, the message has completely disappeared along with about 30 others for 2018 🤬, so if you are still needing this information, can you please send me a message so it either
a) brings that one back to me out of nowhere land, or
b) creates a new one.
I totally understand if you have found the info somewhere else, although I have been enjoying Christmas break until this week as all my suppliers have been closed too.🥳
A big thank you to all my likers... 🤗🥰
Amor has had an FB presence for quite a while, however with so much going on behind the scenes, I'm a bit slack with social media... 😀
Today, I'm busy making up cosmetic kits....I have bulk quantities of lipgloss and lipstick base quietly melting in the background whilst bagging and labelling 250 bags of 1gm micas and oxides - there's quite a few to be done so it will keep me busy for 2-3 days 😵
I'm busy this week making up kits, and have added dates for Gisborne (19 Feb) and Tauranga (21 Feb), which are now online to book your place.
Please share with anyone you know who is interested in cosmetics, suffers from allergies and struggles to wear makeup - this is the course for them!

If you're thinking about taking essential oils internally, or adding them to your food read this first!
Still on the fence regarding the ingestion of essential oils? Being told that they are safe for use in foods as many companies do it?
Did you know that Wrigley’s uses essential oils to flavour their chewing gums? Must be a safe right?
It’s all about the amount. All about safe dosage levels.
Wrigley's use 1 tablespoon of peppermint essential oil to flavour 135,000 sticks of chewing gum.
If 1 tablespoon contains approximately 15 mls of essential oil, then that works out that each stick of gum contains 0.002 of 1 drop of peppermint essential oil.
Two thousandths of one drop of oil.
This is the dilution that is meant when an oil is identified as "Generally Regarded As Safe" (GRAS) by the FDA.
If you put a drop of peppermint oil in water or in a capsule, you are getting a dose roughly 500 times higher than the what is deemed safe. You are also doing it via a manner that the oil is not emulsified. The oil sits on top of the water.
Still think a drop of Peppermint to flavour your water is safe?
