Compassionate awareness is like having a compass of the heart💚. This compass is all-encompassing as the experience of compassion is not just felt in the heart, but also experienced in the body and mind💛.

Viola Davis who wrote Finding Me shared: “When you are in the face of compassion and empathy, it's amazing how it kills shame💙. Because you're seen, and you're seen for something way more valuable than your circumstances.”

Learning to experience compassionate awareness can remind us what it means to be human💜 and exploring this journey with compassion can guide us in our healing of past traumas or shame and build us a stronger sense of self. The compassion compass can teach us to navigate through our sense of suffering and help us realise that we are not and do not have to feel alone in this world when we go through any challenging times as we live our lives❤️.

The Mindful Self-Compassion 8-week course is a comprehensive and experiential programme that can help us to build compassionate awareness and build or strengthen our compassion compass. Join us in this April's course beginning on 9 April 2023. Visit our MSC page http://www.somacircle.space/msc for more info or be in touch with us at somacircle.space@gmail.com if you have questions regarding our offering🧡.

If there was a structure encompassing our mind, body and heart, mindful awareness can be seen almost as laying a foundation for this structure as a means to our self-regulation and personal growth.

Having mindfulness is a balanced acceptance of the present experience. It is having the openness to receive the present moment, whether they are pleasant or unpleasant, and without clinging to it or rejecting it. ~Silvia Boorstein

Having mindful awareness can help us identify when we are suffering so that we know to offer ourselves kindness. It can act as an anchor or a stabiliser for us when we feel emotionally overwhelmed. It is also a much-needed element for us to learn about compassion. Mindfulness has this and so much more to teach us.

Are you a daydreamer?

Actually we all do that easily for about a third of our day.
Sigmund Freud says that "daydreaming is like a tool to experience repressed desires and instincts that weren't acceptable in our waking world"

While daydreaming has been commonly related to one's inability to concentrate or has its relations to mental conditions, it is actually also a normal occurrence when it happens.

Daydreaming is one of the most common altered states of consciousness where studies have found it to benefit us as a coping mechanism, in cognitive functions and simply a space for the mind to wander into creativity.

Indeed an amazing ability isn't it? This is where our mind finds itself in a world of its own. Spaciousness, a send of freedom from wandering and with no boundaries. ☁️🌈⭐️☃️

It is easy to be quickly caught up in the stresses of daily life. However, by applying mindfulness to these experiences, we can check in with how we are feeling, how we are doing and what we are experiencing.

Our tendency to judge and evaluate things as ‘not quite right’, is a powerful influence in taking us away from experiencing each moment as it is. A good way to cultivate a healthier approach towards situations is to observe the present moment as it is and not put a label on the experience.

There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbours came to visit. “Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically.

“Maybe,” the farmer replied.

The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses.

“How wonderful,” the neighbours exclaimed.

“Maybe,” replied the old man.

The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbours again came to offer their sympathy for what they called his “misfortune.”

“Maybe,” answered the farmer.

The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbours congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.

“Maybe,” said the farmer.

Mindfulness meditation is about maintaining awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens.

It is not trying to empty our mind of thoughts, but rather to pay close attention to the present moment, especially to our own thoughts, emotions and sensations. Some exercises like the body scan and mindful eating could help us live in the present more.

Ever felt like work is never-ending and we’re just getting caught up in the loop of doing? Being engaged in a ‘doing’ mode doesn’t necessarily mean it is a bad thing. However, constantly finding ourselves in just the doing mode takes us away from being in the now.

Learning to switch to a being mode reminds us to be human. The being mode invites us to tap into our 5 senses, take pauses during a hectic day, and allow us to get more in touch with ourselves and feel grounded.

In light of April Fool’s, here is a quote from, The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching: Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, and Liberation by Thich Nhat Hanh.

Jokes aside, here’s a gentle reminder to take a pause amidst your busy schedule to check in with yourself.

What does your body need? What is one thing you can do for yourself today?

18/03/2022

The way we navigate our inner world is what drives us to success. How do we manage our emotions, feelings, and thoughts? Do we let our self-doubt, failings, shame, fear, or anger hold us back? When do we persevere and when should we change it up and adapt when our goals are not serving us?

According to Dr Susan David, we do so via emotional agility. Emotional agility is the ability to experience thoughts and emotions in a way that does not drive us in negative ways but encourages us to reveal the best in ourselves. It is a process that enables us to navigate life’s twists and turns with self-acceptance, clear-sightedness, and an open mind.
