Diamond Way Buddhism Auckland

Diamond Way Buddhism Auckland We're everyday people offering the meditations & teachings of Tibetan Buddhism (Karma Kagyu). The Auckland group are currently searching for a new premises.

Diamond Way Buddhism Auckland is part of an international network of 650 meditation centres in over than 50 countries following the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. The centres were founded and are directed by Lama Ole Nydahl according to the wishes of the 16th Karmapa. They are now under the guidance of the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Trinley Thaye Dorje. Our centers consist of people and families working in full-time jobs, incorporating Diamond Way Buddhism teachings and meditation into their (often busy!) daily lives. Until then we are closed. Auckland leg of the New Zealand 365 tour - done! What an incredible time with friends from all over the world! So much sightseeing, food, Dharma, and meditation, plus our little center was packed like never before! Over 20 international friends joined us, along with our awesome Aussie crew - such a huge moment for Auckland!

We followed Lama Ole’s footsteps, visiting his favorite places in Auckland - the iconic Waiheke Island and the wild Piha Beach!

Feeling deeply grateful to our Lama for making this all possible. Now, the tour continues to Tasman for more Dharma and one of the most astonishing skydives in the world, where a small but dedicated group is ready to welcome us!

View is our basis

It is beneficial for us to get used to being more aware of how our mind is functioning. That we train our awareness and get used to incorporating an understanding of impermanence in our daily world and our way of thinking. And of course - this may not really be view but it is a part of our practice - that we always begin our day developing some very conscious wishes to be beneficial to others and in that way also we can more easily develop compassion. That we try as well as possible to see things more as dream-like, that we try not to be so caught in the world.

The view is our understanding of how things work. It is good if we really understand that mind is the basis for everything. That we understand that mind contains all possibilities and it is all about reaching the point where we experience these things. This is a very basic view to have.

“I want to tell you something and I want you to really remember it: do not judge your thoughts! When you work with mind, various experiences will come up. Do not identify with them! When you meditate and open your subconscious: if it holds something pleasant or is experienced by you as a blessing and if it is something unpleasant, it will disappear by its own power. Thus, it does not matter what it is, whether it is pleasant or survival-oriented, just let it go! I know that this is difficult in the beginning, but you must train to do it! Your mind is space and nothing can harm it! In essence it is indestructible! But if you hold on to negative thoughts that appear, they will burden your meditation. Therefore you should decide not to judge yourselves, but simply think: “I will accept only good thoughts, the ones that help me benefit others and inspire them.” From the moment you can do that, every meditation is a good meditation. And if you have difficulties with this pure view, please continue. With sufficient practice the results will increase and produce unceasing certainty. It will become like cleaning a house of negative thoughts. All benefit when we keep mind from being disturbed again. I hope that these few lines may be useful to many helping them to help others.”

The Auckland Diamond Way Buddhist Centre is excited to welcome Lena Leontyeva, a long-time student of Lama Ole Nydahl, to Auckland! Lena will be giving a public lecture on Meditation at our centre in Ponsonby on Saturday, 9 November, at 4 PM.

Buddhist meditation is a powerful tool for cultivating a calm, balanced, and happy mind. With time, it deepens our understanding of both ourselves and the world around us. By observing the constant flow of thoughts and emotions, we create the space to recognize the observer of it all — the true nature of mind. Come join us for a lecture to learn more and try meditation for yourself!

Price: $20
Address: 5 Vinegar lane, Ponsonby, Auckland

After an awesome weekend in Auckland with John C, we reunited for the New Zealand National course at our beautiful Glentui.

From chilly rain and snowy peaks one day to warm spring sunshine the next—Glentui gave us a little bit of everything!😁
Lots of teachings, meditation and a debut of our freshly appointed travelling teachers😍 Happy days!

Compassion is the best weapon we have. No matter what kind of aggression we feel, the best weapon that we have as human beings is compassion. This doesn’t mean that we have to constantly offer our cheeks to be slapped, but instead we can very skilfully express this compassion by having great patience, by bearing all the difficulties that we might face. Compassion can really overcome all forms of obstacles. Of course, that doesn’t mean that suddenly life radically changes and that everything is alright. But somehow, through that practice of compassion, life makes sense. It makes sense to live, it makes sense to move forward, it makes sense to do anything.

We just had an amazing weekend with John Christopherson, filled with so much laughter and joy! It’s truly a gift to be together as a sangha and share such meaningful time. We first started talking about John coming to New Zealand way back in 2017, and we’re so grateful the conditions finally came together!🫶🙏

The Auckland Diamond Way Buddhist Centre is excited to welcome John Christopherson, a long-time student of Lama Ole Nydahl, for a public lecture on Buddhism in daily life. Join us at our Ponsonby centre on Saturday, 19 October at 4pm.

This is a great opportunity for anyone curious about Buddhism, whether you’re a complete beginner or have more experience. After the lecture, there will be a short guided meditation, and John will be available to answer any questions.

Being a Buddhist doesn’t require special clothes, altering your diet, or giving up your belongings or social life. It’s more about shifting how you see things—stop taking obstacles too seriously and view everything around you as fascinating and full of possibility. Easy to say, but not always easy to practice. Join us at our upcoming lecture to learn how you can start making this shift in your own life.

About John:
John Christopherson was a searching idealist when he met Lama Ole in 1999 and took refuge with him. He has supported facilitating Diamond Way Buddhist activity in a variety of ways since then. He currently lives near the Heartland Retreat Centre in Wisconsin, US.

In the meditation practice it is important neither to invite the future, nor recollect the past, but to remain in the state of nowness. The nowness of the mind is the practice that should be developed by you all.
