So much gratitude for the Poi Nonnas. This group of fierce, compassionate, intelligent, and playful wahine have been spinning poi with me for nearly a decade, some as part of my original PhD research on the effects of poi on health back in 2016. I will never forget the day I met Carol (sitting behind me in the photo), as she was the FIRST PERSON EVER to take a leap and agree to participate in my PhD research, which eventually paved the way for the SpinPoi universe. Here’s to you Poi Nonnas! 🥂 I couldn’t be luckier.

I’m thrilled to announce PATH (Poi Assisted Therapy), a new program designed to support trauma processing through the integration of EMDR and poi. As someone who has personally benefitted from both EMDR and poi, I am so stoked to be bringing this to fruition in collaboration with clinical psychologist Dr. Chris Neuenfeldt from Trauma Aid Aotearoa. Congratulations to Els Eerdekens for becoming a Certified SpinPoi Insturctor! Els is a primary school Physical Education teacher and a fitness and wellness coach in their own studio in Belgium. Els says “In both roles, I strive for a healthy balance between body and mind, movement and enjoyment. Through my own experience with poi, I discovered its many benefits: improved coordination, focus, rhythm, body awareness, and relaxation.
