I welcome working with a diverse range of people and issues, and offer both long and short term therapy. I have a Bachelor of Counselling, Diploma in Stress Management and bring many years of life experience to my counselling work, along with on-going personal and professional development and training. People come to therapy for all different reasons, it isn't always easy, but it's the most worthwhile gift you can give yourself. My counselling style is genuine and down to earth, using an integrated approach to best suit your personal and unique needs. I utilise a range of counselling therapies to help support you towards a more fulfilling life, these include Person Centred Therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Brief Solution Focused Therapy and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). I am passionate about empowering you to uncover your strengths, to find strategies and solutions for managing and resolving the imbalance in your life. I provide a safe space for you to try out new ways of being, thinking and feeling, and to manage your emotions in a healthy way. I would like to support you to explore your own reasoning and decision making skills, helping you take action to move in a different direction and to gain increased independence and self-esteem.

Are you faced with a challenging or difficult event or situation?

Here are some things to think about, which may be useful:

Acknowledge to yourself that you have what it takes. Think of this as an opportunity to use and develop your inner strengths.

How have you overcome adversity before? Reflect on a previous occasion when you were faced with a difficult situation and consider how you dealt with that. Maybe there’s a strategy you’ve used before, that could work for this situation.

When life gets tough or complicated, we can tend to be hard on ourselves. Give yourself some TLC, by being extra kind to yourself you may find the space and energy to find a creative solution.

Sometimes it helps to let go of the desire to do things perfectly. High self-expectations can turn minor challenges into impossible tasks.

Take some time out, find a quiet space, maybe with no one in ear shot and…

…SING & DANCE!

Listening to music can invigorate the body by activating several areas of the brain and increasing oxygen flow to the heart. Dancing releases feel-good chemicals and burns off stress hormones.
Find a lively song you like to sing-a-long too, turn up the volume…let you inhibitions go…lose yourself in the moment…sing out loud and just let your body move to the music!
Feel instantly lighter. Boosts your mood as well as your energy!

If your mood is low much of the time, talking it through with a counsellor could improve your frame of mind and make you feel better.

Need to get focused and on top of things?

Here are some ideas that might help!

Ask yourself what the single most important things is that you need or want to do today and focus on completing that.

Use ‘TO DO’ lists and simple action plans, keeping planning uncomplicated with easy step-by-step directions you know you can achieve.

Don’t move the goal posts!

Don’t overwhelm yourself with unrealistic expectations. If a task feels like an impossible mountain to climb then take time out and check whether you have taken on too much and revise your plan accordingly.

Prioritising, taking small steps and celebrating each success along the way can have a huge impact on reducing your stress levels.
