Kia ora koutou,

Thank you all for the interest, messages, and support – it truly means a lot to our friend.

Just a quick reminder: I run this page in my own time, outside of full-time mahi and being a mum, so I don’t always catch every message straight away. I’ve shared as much information as possible across the page – including detailed posts, FAQs, and contact details – so please take the time to read through before reaching out.

If, after reading everything, you’re genuinely wanting to connect or help, please contact our friend directly. Her mobile number and email are listed in the ad, several posts, and the About section, and in case you miss those spots: 020 485 4941 (text or whatsapp in the first instance, she still has a full time job and a family) and hope4akidney@gmail.com

One thing I kindly ask – please don’t reach out unless you’re serious. She is literally fighting for her life, and being contacted only to be ghosted is not only disheartening, it’s unfair and emotionally draining and cruel.

We’re doing our best to hold hope – and your kindness, patience, and sincerity make all the difference.

Ngā mihi nui.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for joining us 💚💚

A Few Things You Need to Know About Kidney Donation 💚

Thinking about kidney donation? Here’s what you should know! If you’re considering becoming a living donor, you probably have lots of questions. Let’s break it down for you.

1. How do I know if I am a suitable donor? You’ll need to go through a series of tests to make sure it’s safe for you to donate. A transplant coordinator can guide you through the process — get in touch for more info.

2. Can I live a normal life with one kidney? Most donors live a perfectly healthy life after donating — just remember, maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle is key! 💚

3. Do I have to be the same blood group as the recipient to donate? Nope! You can donate to someone with a different blood group as long as you’re a tissue match. Testing will ensure you’re compatible.

4. How long does kidney donation take? The testing process can take 4–6 months, and you might need to wait 2–3 months after that for your surgery date.

5. How long is the operation and stay in hospital? The surgery takes around 3 hours, and most donors stay in the hospital for 2–3 days.

6. What about compensation for lost earnings? You may be eligible for compensation for up to 12 weeks if you can’t work while recovering. Most people return to work within 6 weeks.

💬 If you have more questions, please message us directly so that we can connect you with our friend. Don’t forget to share this page or post to help us boost visibility 🥰

💛 YES, WE ARE STILL HERE 💛

We know it’s been a bit quiet on this page lately — but please rest assured, we haven’t stopped. We’ve just hit a few unexpected hurdles along the way, and needed some time to reflect, regroup, and figure out our next steps 🛑🔄

Some protocols and guidelines (that were previously unknown to our friend and us) from ADHB have changed the way this donor appeal can move forward — and honestly, it’s been a bit of a blow.

Our friend is now only allowed to refer people for testing if they are:
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 her family
🤝 her friends
🔗 or friends of friends

If someone falls outside of those groups, they must first build an in-person friendship with her for at least 6 months before they can be considered for testing.

Yep… that was a tough one to hear.

An "in-person friendship" could be something like meeting for coffee once a month ☕ — and while we know that may feel a bit awkward or forced, it’s the only path forward if no matches are found within her existing network. So, Auckland based it is, and we cannot change the name of the page until it has been 60 days since we changed to include AUS.

We’re still here. Still hopeful. Still in this 💪
Thank you for sticking with us, for following, sharing, supporting, and caring. It means the world. We’re not giving up 🙏✨

Today we remember the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of the ANZACs — the men and women who served, and those who continue to serve.

May we honour their legacy with gratitude and unity across New Zealand and Australia ❤️

🚫 Public Notice: Clarification on Organ Donation: No Buying or Selling

We've received a number of messages and comments, clearly trolling — offering to sell a kidney or asking how much we would pay for one.

Let us be absolutely clear:

🛑 We are not seeking to buy a kidney.
🛑 We would never consider paying someone for their organ.
🛑 This is not how organ donation works in Aotearoa New Zealand.

⚖️ What the Law Says (NZ)
Under New Zealand’s Human Tissue Act 2008, it is illegal to:

• Buy or sell human organs or tissue
• Ask for payment in exchange for organ donation
• Offer money to someone for their organ
• Advertise the sale or purchase of organs

Breaching these laws can lead to serious consequences, including fines and imprisonment.
https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/2008/0028/latest/dlm1152940.html

✅ Organ Donation Must Be Altruistic and Voluntary
In New Zealand, organ donation is based on informed consent and must be voluntary.
This applies to both living and deceased donors. Offering payment for organs is not only illegal, but it also undermines the ethical foundations of the donation system.

💚 Organ Donation Is a Gift — Not a Transaction
This campaign is built on kindness, compassion, and generosity — not money.
We’re here to find a living donor through hope and humanity, not financial incentives.

🚨 To Trolls and Scammers:
If you message us with offers to sell a kidney or ask how much we’ll pay:

⚠️ You will be reported to Meta
⚠️ You will be banned from this page
⚠️ May be referred to relevant authorities

We are committed to keeping this space safe, respectful, and legally sound for all.

To everyone who has shown genuine care and support — thank you.
Ngā mihi nui 💚
