One of the biggest sources of stress early in pregnancy?

Trying to figure out who should be your maternity care provider.

We regularly meet families who feel unsure navigating:
– Midwife vs obstetric care.
– Public vs private options.
– How to actually secure availability.

Often, by the time they start looking…options are already limited.

That’s why we created a FREE guide to help you make this decision with clarity and confidence.

It’s based on real, current experience working within Auckland’s maternity system.

If you’d like a copy, simply DM “GUIDE” and we’ll send it through 🤍

(No need to comment if you’re not sharing your pregnancy news yet)

If you’re being induced, don’t skip this.

When you walk into a birthing room for an induction, it can feel bright, clinical, and completely unfamiliar.

But here’s what most families aren’t told.
Your environment plays a huge role in how your labour unfolds.

Oxytocin - The hormone that drives your contractions, flows best when you feel calm, safe & supported

Not when you’re stressed, exposed, or overstimulated.

As midwives working on birthing suite, we see it all the time. Small changes to the room can help your body to begin to work induction, not against it.

That’s exactly what we teach in our classes.

🐣 Pregnant and planning to give birth in Auckland?

We know how much how much there is to think about early on & how essential it is to feel prepared before birth.

So this Easter, we are giving away 2 spaces in our antenatal classes (one in April & one in May).

These are small group sessions run by midwives working here within Auckland Hospital. These classes are focused on how birth actually unfolds.

“Scientifically proven” might be a slight stretch… 😜

BUT chocolate does boost those feel-good hormones

→ endorphins
→ oxytocin
→ dopamine
→ serotonin

And when we feel good, relaxed, and supported…
our bodies tend to respond better too 🤍

So no, Easter eggs aren’t the magic answer to milk supply…
but I’m certainly not not recommending them 🍫🐣

Breastfeeding Myths #1 🤍

Let’s talk about the word “natural”…

Because I think it has a lot to answer for when it comes to breastfeeding, in fact it gets on my grill a little bit…

So many books, apps and bits of advice tell us that because breastfeeding is natural… it should just happen, passively

But somewhere along the way, “natural” has become confused with easy.

And they are not the same thing.

Walking is natural too.

But when we first learnt to walk, it didn’t feel easy.

We wobbled.
We fell over.
We needed someone’s hands to steady us and guide us.

We didn’t question whether we were “failing” at walking…
we understood that we were learning.

Breastfeeding deserves that same understanding.
Because it is a learning process - for both you and your baby.

So if it hasn’t just “clicked”…
if it’s felt harder than you expected…

You are not doing anything wrong.
You’re learning 🤍
And you deserve support while you do.

Save this for later, or send it to a mum who needs to hear this today.

There comes a moment in pregnancy where you suddenly think…

“Wait… should we be doing antenatal classes?” 😅

And then the spiral begins.

Google. Instagram. Advice from friends. TikTok (😬)

And before you know it, you’re trying to figure out:
• What’s actually helpful
• What’s outdated
• And what is… well… completely rogue
(True story… someone was told to use a toothbrush to “toughen up” their ni***es 🫠)

As midwives working here in Auckland, we see first-hand how overwhelming this stage can feel for parents.

So we’ve written a blog to help you cut through the noise and understand:

✨ What makes a great antenatal class
✨ The difference between hospital and private classes
✨ When to book
✨ And how to choose what’s right for your family

If you’re currently pregnant and trying to figure it all out, this one is for you 🤍

This is exactly how we want families to feel walking into birth & parenting.

We created Nine Antenatal to give parents clear, structured preparation for birth & parenthood - without overwhelming personal stories or dramatic experiences.

Just balanced information, realistic expectations & a supportive space to ask questions.

Our classes are designed by midwives working within Auckland Hospital, so the preparation reflects how birth actually unfolds here.

Knowing families leave our classes feeling calmer and more confident is exactly why we do this 🤍

Planning to birth at Auckland Hospital? Our upcoming classes are now open for booking.

Many parents invest in antenatal classes hoping to feel calm and confident about birth.

Yet after years of working on Auckland Hospital's birthing suite, we saw something surprising.

Families were still arriving for birth anxious, unsure what to expect & asking questions that should have been answered long before the day their baby was born.

A few days later we would visit those same families at home.

Often they were struggling with feeding & the reality of life with a newborn, despite having invested time and money into antenatal education.

That's when we realised something important.

Antenatal education wasn't always preparing parents for the real experience of birth and early parenting.

So we created Nine.

Antenatal education designed by midwives working inside Auckland Hospital. Focused not only on birth, but on helping parents feel confident navigating the whole journey.

From understanding labour,
to feeding your baby,
to those first days at home.

If you're planning to birth at Auckland Hospital, we'd live to support you.

Classes are now open for booking.

Birth feedback like this never feels routine and never will.

Thank you for trusting me with one of the most vulnerable moments of your life.
Thank you for allowing us to share a small part of Emmie’s story 🤍

Chloe birthed at Auckland Hospital alongside Philip Beattie & myself.

This is why Becci and I do what we do. Whether we’re in the birth room, theatre, your living room or teaching antenatal classes - calm, clarity, advocacy and care should never be optional.

Welcome to the world, sweet Emmie ✨
