The Golden Rules for everyone at Alert Level 1

- If you’re sick, stay home. Don’t go to work or school. Don’t socialise.
- If you have cold or flu symptoms call your doctor or Healthline and make sure you get tested.
- Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash your hands.
- Sneeze and cough into your elbow, and regularly disinfect shared surfaces.
- If you are told by health authorities to self-isolate you must do so immediately.
- If you’re concerned about your wellbeing or have underlying health conditions, work with your GP to understand how best to stay healthy.
- Keep track of where you’ve been and who you’ve seen to help contact tracing if needed. Use the NZ COVID Tracer app as a handy way of doing this.
- Businesses should help people keep track of their movements by displaying the Ministry of Health QR Code for contact tracing.
- Stay vigilant. There is still a global pandemic going on. People and businesses should be prepared to act fast to step up Alert Levels if we have to.
- People will have had different experiences over the last couple of months. Whatever you’re feeling — it’s okay.
- Be kind to others. Be kind to yourself.

True Victory

The one who wins
the inner battle
is the real braveheart
as the true battle is inside,
not outside.
We have to fight
against our own
greed, anger, and delusion,
as they cause problems to
ourselves and the world.
If we move through
the suffering and darkness
that lies within,
the world will be in peace,
and victory will truly be with us.

Choice of Words

Words that hinder
others’ stillness and peacefulness of mind
should never pass our lips.
Much less comments that discourage others
from practising meditation.
Let us speak instead of things
that encourage others’ peace
and stability of mind,
forging morale to do good deeds
and meditation without end.
If we restrict ourselves to such words,
love, respect, credibility,
trust and joy will come our way.
Moreover, our own attainment in meditation
will become easier as a result.

Expectation Free

When practising meditation,
don’t harbour expectations or worries
about whether your inner experience
is moving forwards, backwards,
or the same as before.
Speculation is of no use.
Simply bring your mind to a standstill
and remain joyfully with the moment.
Don’t go thinking “with my mind as still as this,
I ought to be getting some new experiences”.
Accept it if there is no change,
and if there is a change then accept that too.
Don’t let anything
rob your mind of its neutrality.
These are groundworks to the study
of the Wisdom of Dhammakaya.

Outward Movement,
Inward Stillness

Our career is merely
a secondary priority that
goes hand in hand with
the Dhamma - the spiritual
lessons which can be
practiced during our
daily activities.
While we are moving,
studying, working, or doing
anything, we can rest our
minds within the
center of our body.
When we can take control
of our mind, we will not be
overwhelmed with emotion
and pain when facing
changes or unexpected
events. Thus, our mind will
not be influenced by
suffering, and will become
like a cool spot in a hot
furnace.

Happy Sun

The internal sun will arise
when our mind is at a standstill.
It will be like a bright object
shining day and night.
The ordinary sun shines
half a day
then fades away.
But when we attain
the internal sun,
our life will never be in darkness.
Whatever incident we face,
though we cannot change it
as we wish,
we can overcome it;
as we connect with
the happy sun inside.

Our Only Real Belongings

There are only two things
that really belong to us.
One is our mind
and the other is the point inside us
which is home to the mind.
Mind consists of the functions
of perception, memory,
thought and cognition.
The home for our mind
is at the centre of our body,
at a place called the ‘seventh base’,
which is the trailhead
of the Middle Way inside us.
It is this inner path
that all the Enlightened Ones
have used to reach Nirvana,
to attain the source of pure wisdom,
and to break free of suffering
while gaining knowledge of
the reality of life and the world.

The Things that
Remain

Even if we lose every
single thing in our lives,
we still have our life
and can attain a peaceful
mind at the center of our
body. If we do not know
how to deal with the
situation, we can begin
with our mind.
When the mind is clear,
we will have both
the wisdom and courage
to cope with the problems.
Do not worry about
the scarcity of material
wealth as long as you
possess spiritual wealth.
Simply meditate and
keep your mind positive,
and soon you will be
better off.

A great Indian philosopher, Patanjali said:

"When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all of your thoughts break their bonds: your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive and you discover yourself to be a greater person than you ever dreamed yourself to be."

It is so important in life that we find our purpose, which is many times connected with serving others. When you can give all you have to a higher purpose, the divine, the humanity, you will realise how abundant life you have.
Happiness is not a value, it is not a purpose, it is the end result of you serving others. You cannot be always happy, it is just humanly impossible, but there is always a chance to serve. There are so many different opportunities do it. All you need to do is to realise how you could help, motivate, empower or serve other human beings or the environment.

But how could you realise your purpose? You need to go first within, let it rise during your meditation practice. Give yourself time to digest it and work with it.

Let us, the Middleway Meditation Auckland, to help you along the journey. Join our weekly meditation sessions online each Monday and Wednesday and take the first step towards finding your purpose.

Being Chased

We must meditate to attain
true happiness inside
which only occurs when
we bring back our mind
into our body.
When the mind becomes still,
happiness will chase us,
rather than us chasing
happiness.

For the still and focused mind;
whatever we think,
whatever we speak,
whatever we do,
shall all be great.
As a result, our life is full of
happiness and success,
we see nothing as
a problem anymore.

Meditation will decrease
our own disputes,
disputes among family
members and strangers.
We have the power to
avoid bad Karma.

The ability for tolerance
will develop internally,
of its own will,
without force,
without trying,
as life has a
fundamental principle
of happiness.

Words are the verbal embodiment of power, they are great influencers. There is no wonder why mantras and prayers have been around for thousands of years. By filling your mind with words of hope, you become hopeful. By filling it with words of kindness, you become kind. By filling your mind with thoughts of courage, you become courageous. Positive thinking and empowerment by words will bring incredible results and massive energy in your way.

We invite you to repeat this mantra each day:
"I am more than I appear to be, all the world`s strength and power rests inside me"

Blend this practice with creative envisioning while meditating. See yourself as a disciplined, firm person, fully in control of your mind, your body and spirit. Let your inner power rise!
