Cambridge Creative Counselling NZ

Cambridge Creative Counselling NZ As a qualified counsellor and NZAC member, I offer individual counselling - both face-to-face and online - as well as creative wellbeing group workshops.

My approach is integrative and personalised, tailored to meet your unique needs. Life can feel overwhelming when you're carrying the weight of past experiences while trying to navigate the present and move toward the future you want. You might feel stuck, lost, or unsure of who you truly are. Maybe you’re processing grief, loss, changes in identity, or challenges around sexuality. You may also be facing transitions, difficult emotions, or uncertainty about the path ahead. Whatever brings you here, you don’t have to navigate it alone. At Cambridge Creative Counselling, I offer a safe, compassionate space to explore your experiences freely, without judgment. I take a holistic approach, seeing you as shaped by all you’ve been & all you hope to be. As a person-centred counsellor I believe you are the expert in your life & I support you in a way that feels right for you. If it resonates, I can integrate creative arts therapy, offering alternative ways to explore, express & process emotions when words aren’t enough. As a gay woman, I know how important it is to feel seen, valued & safe to be your whole self. As a proud member of the rainbow community, I offer an affirming space for anyone seeking support. Whether you're facing personal struggles, identity questions, or wanting to explore yourself in new ways, I’m here to help. If you're ready, I invite you to reach out.

🌼 Easter Sunday Slow Down 🐣

Whether you're celebrating a meaningful tradition, chasing tiny humans through a chocolate-fuelled egg hunt, or simply enjoying a slower-than-usual morning - here’s to whatever renewal looks like for you.

Maybe it’s…

🎨 Starting something new
🧹 Letting go of what’s felt heavy
🌱 Noticing small joys: sunshine, connection, leftover hot cross buns

Creative counselling teaches us that growth doesn’t have to be loud or polished.
Sometimes, it’s gluey and colourful. Sometimes, it’s messy and magic.

However you’re spending today, I hope you feel a little softness, a little sparkle, and full permission to be exactly as you are.

What’s one tiny thing you’re grateful for today? (Bonus points if it’s covered in chocolate!)

🐣 Easter Saturday Vibes 🐰

Some people spend Easter weekend hunting for chocolate eggs.
Others spend it avoiding glittery craft disasters and pretending not to eat their kids’ stash.

Me? I'm just over here thinking how creative expression is kind of like an Easter egg hunt.
Sometimes you find something sweet in the most unexpected place.
Other times... it’s just crumpled tinfoil and a tummy ache.

🎨 Whether you’re journaling, doodling, or just stirring your coffee with intention - that counts.

Creativity doesn’t have to be serious. Sometimes it’s just a splash of colour and a smile.

What’s something unexpectedly joyful you’ve stumbled across lately?

🌿 Good Friday Reflections

For some, today holds deep religious meaning.
For others, it may be a quiet pause - a long weekend, a space to breathe, or a moment of personal reflection.

Whatever this day means to you, it can be an opportunity to acknowledge what’s heavy, what’s shifting, and what’s quietly growing underneath.

In creative counselling, we often make space for those deeper threads - grief, letting go, transition, and hope.
Sometimes with paint.
Sometimes with silence.
Always with gentleness.

Creative prompt:
Create something simple today - a mark, a collage, a scribble - to honour something you’re releasing… or something you're slowly returning to.

However you spend this day, may it hold softness, stillness, and space to just be.

🎂 Life is Made of Moments (and Mixed Media)

Today’s a bit special - it's my beautiful wife's birthday.
It’s got me thinking about celebration, connection, and the quiet beauty of being known.

In creative arts therapy, we often explore the stories, symbols, and sensations that shape our lives - not just the hard stuff, but the joyful, quirky, and tender bits too.

Whether it’s scribbling out a memory in charcoal or stitching together collage pieces of who we are… it all matters.

So here’s to love, in whatever form it takes.
Here’s to the people who feel like home.
And here’s to honouring the art of being human.

Creative prompt:
Make a birthday card for someone who’s shaped you - even if you never send it.

🎨 Emotions & Art: A Mini Prompt 🎨
(No art degree required. Messy hands encouraged.)

Prompt:
Pick a colour that matches how you feel today. That’s it.
No need to name the feeling. No need to explain it.
Just let the colour speak for itself.

Maybe today feels like soft grey socks.
Maybe it’s neon chaos.
Maybe it’s “I accidentally mixed everything into brown” - and honestly, that’s valid.

Sometimes a colour says more than words ever could.

💬 Feel free to share your colour in the comments - or keep it just for you.
Either way, your feelings are welcome here. Smudges and all.

As a gay woman, I’ve heard it all - and that’s exactly why I’ve created a space where you don’t have to explain yourself. No justifying, no shrinking, no dodging awkward questions. You don’t have to educate anyone. You don’t have to tone it down. You get to just be.

Whether you’re out, questioning, quietly q***r, loudly proud, or somewhere in between - you’re welcome here exactly as you are.

No awkward questions, no raised eyebrows - just an affirming space to show up and breathe.

Feeling safe to be your full self matters. This space is here for you.

What even is a Person-Centred counsellor?

Being person-centred means I don’t have all the answers -
but I believe you’ve got the map.

I’m just here to walk beside you, like the overly enthusiastic Google Maps voice (you can choose the accent):

“Recalculating… You’re doing great.”
(And I promise not to say, “You have reached your destination” until you decide you’re there)

In our sessions, you decide where we go, what feels important, and how we get there.
Whether that’s through talking, making art, sitting with silence, or finding new ways to express what’s hard to say - this space is shaped by you.

When someone truly listens - with compassion, not judgment or advice - it can bring you back to yourself in the most powerful way.

✨ What does it feel like when someone really gets you?
Feel free to share, or just take a moment to notice what that brings up.

What a First Session Looks Like

Starting counselling can feel intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. In a creative, person-centred session, you won’t be judged or rushed. We’ll begin by chatting about what brought you here, and together we’ll decide what approach feels most comfortable for you. Whether we’re talking or using art, the focus will always be on you and your experience. It’s about feeling heard and understood.

Feeling nervous about your first session? It’s completely normal! Reach out if you have any questions or want to know what to expect. You’re not alone in this journey. ✨💬

Myth-Busting: You Don’t Have to Be an Artist

You don’t need to be an artist to benefit from creative arts counselling. It’s about the journey, not the final product. The focus is on self-expression, exploration, and understanding. Through art, music, writing, or movement, we tap into what’s already within you. It’s a safe space to explore your emotions without the pressure to create a masterpiece.

What helps you process your emotions? Is it writing, music, movement, or something else? Let me know in the comments! 💬✨

What Counselling Looks Like With Me

Counselling with me isn’t about fixing you.
You’re not broken.

It’s about creating a gentle space where you can breathe a little easier, feel what you need to feel, and reconnect with who you are - beneath the noise, the expectations, and the pressure to hold it all together.

Here’s what you can expect: 🌿 A warm, welcoming space
🌿 Someone who listens with care, not judgement
🌿 A pace that suits you
🌿 A place where tears, silence, laughter, and creativity are all welcome
🌿 The option to use art materials if words aren’t quite enough

You don’t have to know exactly what you need before you come. Just showing up is enough.

And if you’ve ever felt “too much,” “too quiet,” or “not enough” - I promise, you’re not alone.

Curious about what a first session might look like? Feel free to message me — I’m happy to answer any questions, no pressure.

What Is Creative Arts Counselling?

You don’t have to be “good at art” to benefit from creative counselling.

Sometimes words just aren’t enough.
Or they’ve been said so often they’ve lost their meaning.

That’s where creative arts counselling can help - gently unlocking new ways to explore your experiences.

In our work together, we might use materials like pastels, paint, collage, image cards, clay, or journaling. These creative tools can help express emotions, access insight, or simply bring a sense of calm and connection.

You’re always in charge of how we work. The creative process is just one option - and only if it feels right for you.

Whether you're processing grief, navigating identity, or feeling stuck and unsure - this space is here for you.

If you’re curious, I’d love to chat 💬

Hi, I’m Kat (she/her) - a counsellor, creative arts therapist-in-training, and the heart behind Cambridge Creative Counselling.

Life can feel heavy when you’re carrying the weight of past experiences while trying to move forward. Maybe you’re feeling stuck, grieving, facing identity shifts, or just unsure of who you are. You don’t have to figure it all out alone.

Here, you’ll find a safe and affirming space to explore what’s going on for you - at your pace, and in your way. I work in a person-centred, holistic way, and if words aren’t quite enough, we can bring in creative arts therapy to help express and process what’s hard to say.

As a gay woman, I’m especially passionate about creating space for members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies to feel seen, valued, and supported.

This page is where I’ll share a bit more about how I work, what creative counselling can look like, and maybe a few quiet reflections along the way.

Thanks for being here,
Kat
