This group is for people in New Zealand who suffer from Diarrhea Predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and who wish to be part of an informal study into the causes and treatments of this disease. Having spent time and money on symptom suppressing medication that is limited at best, and hearing stories of others who suffer, I realised it was time to do something about it. People living with IBS can suffer pain and constant urgency on a daily basis and my symptoms are typical of this disease. As much as 20% of the population in NZ suffers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome in some form. IBS-D (Diarrhea predominant), IBS-C (constipation), IBS-M (Mixed both D&C)
To know what its like to have this disease, imagine you get a very strong urge to go to the loo and you have to be quick or you might not make it and sometimes you don't. The problem is also that even after you have been the urges keep coming. They wax and wane over the day and pain in your stomach and intestines comes right along with it. The purpose of the study is because not much is known about this complex disease. There are many theories about causes, and treatments don't work the same for everyone. My goal is to find a cure or a cause and if not, then a treatment that will work so I can go back to living a life without wondering where to find the next loo on my travels. Initially I would like to gather a list of names of people who are interested in being part of an informal study. I say informal because I am not a medical professional. I would like to gather information on peoples symptoms and what limitations this disease places on their lives. The information can then be provided to researchers in NZ so we have have solutions that work for us. Please contact me Lisa Cowe - lisacowe@snap.net.nz or phone 0276828774
