While organ donation will often be ruled out by cancer or similar illnesses, this is not the case with eye tissue. Many people who would not be medically suitable for organ donation can still donate eye tissues. www.donor.co.nz

Donor spotlight on Derek at our Timaru blood drive happening this week. Derek has been a donor since 1992. With donations in both Timaru and Christchurch, he has just completed his 66th donation!

Distance no barrier for Vickie.

Ashburton resident Vickie doesn’t mind going out of her way to donate plasma. When she was a baby, her life was saved by donated blood products. She reciprocates by donating plasma whenever she can and regularly drives to Christchurch from Ashburton to do so. Vickie even made a special trip to Christchurch to donate on her birthday and to celebrate national blood donor week. Wow! Thanks heaps for being a lifesaver Vickie.

The man – Franklin!

From donating in the Philippines in 2008 to donating in Christchurch in 2025 – Franklin has just completed his 100th donation. Congratulations on your lifesaving milestone Franklin.

Over his donating journey Franklin has donated whole blood, plasma and platelets. Every component of his blood he could possibly donate!

Not only a donor, but Franklin is also a valued member of the NZ Blood Christchurch team. Always cheerful and known as ‘the vein whisperer’ for his skilled phlebotomy.

Lifesaving superheroes don’t always wear a cape, sometimes they drive milk tankers!

Superhero Dean is an Ashburton resident who began his blood donation at the local mobile blood drive and has recently notched up 100 donations! Congratulations on that incredible lifesaving milestone.
