NZBlood’s donor centre in Addington is open this Saturday 18th April for plasma and whole blood donations.
With Cyclone Vaianu disrupting some North Island donation clinics, we’re asking our incredible southern donors to again answer the call to save lives.
These rare weekend appointments will fill fast so please book early.
*pro tip* appointments often become available 24-36 hours beforehand as pre-booked donors change their plans, so it’s worth checking availability again on the day prior.

Fun family making a big impact.

Today we’re celebrating Glenn who recently gave his 166th plasma donation alongside his son Eric who was celebrating his 20th donation. These incredible contributions continue a family tradition of donating started by Eric’s grandfather and which also includes Glenn’s daughter, an O negative donor who gives blood every three months. Wow! Thank you, team!

There was plenty of banter between Eric and Glenn, so it was no surprise when they said “the conversations and snacks are the best things about donating. Plus, the people here make us feel happy”. We couldn’t agree more guys; your lifesaving efforts make everyone happy! 😄

Thank you for the love and commitment. The world truly needs more heroes like you.

What starts with your curiosity could lead to saving lives.

The New Zealand Bone Marrow Registry needs people aged 18–35 – with a particular focus on those of Māori, Pacific Island, and other ethnic minority backgrounds – to help ensure lifesaving matches for patients in need.

All you need to do is come along for a chat and complete a quick cheek swab test to join the registry. Please do not eat or drink for one hour prior to the test (don’t worry, there will be some snacks provided after! )

The team will be there to answer any questions you might have. You’ll also be able to find out your blood type and discover more ways you could help save lives.

See you there!

Today we recognise Andries Kruger, who has just completed his 150th donation — an incredible achievement that has helped save and improve countless Kiwi lives.

Andries began his donor journey in South Africa, where he made his first 20 whole blood donations. After moving to Aotearoa, he didn’t hesitate to continue giving — this time through plasma donation.

When we asked if he’d like anyone in the milestone photo with him, he instantly said Franklin. Over the years, Andries and Franklin have built a genuine connection through many visits to the donor centre.

Thank you, Andries, for your dedication, kindness, and commitment to helping others.
And thank you to all donors who make a lifesaving difference every day.

Leave a message below to help us congratulate him! 👏

What’s your go‑to treat after donating?
One of the best parts of giving blood or plasma (aside from saving lives, of course!) is choosing that perfect post‑donation snack.

So tell us… what’s your favourite?
🍎 Fresh fruit
🥜 Salted cashews
🍫 Choccy biccies
🧀 Crackers & cheese
☕ Cappuccino, flat white, or green tea…
…or are you firmly in the “all of the above” camp? 👀

Miss Canterbury joins NZBlood’s lifesaving whānau.

Community service, supporting charities, and building confidence among contestants are key objectives of the annual Miss Canterbury pageant. Reigning Miss Canterbury, Georgia Hill, demonstrated her commitment to the pageant kaupapa and recently gave her first blood donation at NZBLood’s Lester Lane donor centre. Thank you, Georgia, your donation will make a positive impact to patients in need.

Georgia and the other pageant category winners are also supporters of Te Tahi Youth

Thanks again, Georgia. It’s great to have you in our lifesaving whānau. Keep up the great work and see you again soon.

Young legend donates “for the babies”.

19-year-old Nicholas O’Hagan is part of a special group of whole blood donors who are not only Onegative blood type (the universal type), but they are also “CMV negative”. This means they haven’t been exposed to Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and therefore their blood is the best choice for newborns and paediatric patients requiring transfusions.

With most adults being exposed to CMV at some point in their lives, we are always looking for young donors who could be CMV negative.

Thanks heaps Nicholas for being an important member of NZBlood’s lifesaving whānau.
