Rewired Runner. The name comes from two parts.

Runner reflects a passion for movement, progress, and pushing forward.

Rewired represents the process of rebuilding after stroke, retraining the brain, and creating new pathways to relearn movement and function.

Together, it captures what this platform stands for.

Recovery, adaptation, and the belief that improvement is always possible.

At the Go One More Ultra, U.S. Marine combat veteran Mike Egan competed for 27 hours, covering more than 110 miles and finishing in the top 28, outlasting 117 runners.

When heavy rain made the course impossible for his wheelchair, Egan refused to stop, continuing the race on his hands in a remarkable display of endurance and determination.

Why Rewired Runner?

Because sometimes recovery is not about becoming who you were before.

It is about rebuilding.
Adapting.
Finding new strength.
And choosing to keep moving forward.

To me, rewired speaks to recovery, resilience, and growth.

And runner is about more than sport. It is about momentum, progress, and refusing to give up when life gets hard.

This page was born from my own journey, but the message is for anyone facing neurological recovery, adversity, or a tough season in life.

You may not come back the same.
But you can still move forward with purpose.

Recovery after stroke is rarely one giant breakthrough.

More often, it is built through tiny gains repeated over time.

One extra word spoken clearly.
One small improvement in balance.
One more rep.
One better day than the last.

At the start, 1% can feel too small to matter. But those small wins stack. They rebuild confidence. They rebuild function. They rebuild identity.

That is how recovery can happen. Not always in dramatic leaps, but through consistent effort, patience, and belief over time.

If you are a survivor, carer, or someone fighting through a hard season, do not underestimate the power of small progress.

Keep going. Your 1% matters.

Article 3 is now live on the Rewired Runner website:Recovery Timeline

One of the most common questions after stroke is, “How long will this take?”

The reality is, recovery does not follow a clear or predictable timeline.

Progress can be fast, then slow. It can plateau, then shift again. What works for one person may look completely different for another.

This article breaks down the reality of recovery timelines, helping set expectations for the long term and reinforcing that progress can continue well beyond the early stages.

Because recovery is not defined by a fixed window. It is shaped by consistency, effort, and belief over time.

Progress isn’t linear — and that does not mean you are failing.

Recovery comes in waves.
So does confidence.
So does belief.

Some days you move forward.
Some days you hold your ground.
Some days it feels like nothing is changing at all.

But it is.

Real progress is often being built before it can be seen. That is why discipline matters more than motivation, and why small repeated actions matter so much. As I share in this Rewired Runner article, mindset is not something you wait to feel — it is something you build through action.

So if today feels hard, do not quit.
Protect your energy.
Stay in the present.
Take the next step you can take.

That is how belief is rebuilt.
That is how recovery moves forward.
That is how stronger lives are made.

Stroke is no April-fool's joke! 🤡

It is the second leading cause of death in New Zealand – and the largest cause of adult disability.

Yet, investment in stroke services remains limited.

Recovery isn’t always visible.

It’s the quiet progress no one sees — showing up, trying again, getting through another day.

Those tiny wins? They’re everything.
