🌿 At Prana, New Zealand, we believe that true performance and productivity stem from the holistic wellbeing of employees.

Recently, in collaboration with ESMAR, I had the privilege of conducting an online wellness session designed exclusively for professionals in the marine industry.

âš“ The marine sector is unique- with long working hours, high stress, and physically demanding tasks, making mental, physical, and emotional health a top priority.

During this session, we explored practical strategies to:
âś… Build resilience
âś… Manage stress effectively
âś… Maintain a healthy work-life balance

I’m grateful to ESMAR for prioritizing the well-being of their workforce, and for trusting Prana to support their employees’ journey towards better health and performance.

Together, we’re committed to creating healthier, more supportive workplaces in the marine industry, because when people thrive, organizations excel. 🚀

When we talk about rehabilitation, especially in physiotherapy, we often focus on designing the “perfect” treatment plan the most updated exercises, the latest tools, and evidence-based techniques. But let me tell you something I learned early in my career:

👉 The biggest challenge in rehab isn’t creating the ideal program it’s getting the patient to want to engage.

🎯 Cool Doesn’t Work. Connection Does.

I work with older adults, many of whom live with cognitive decline, chronic conditions, or reduced mobility. When I first started out, I leaned into the flashy, “cool” exercises. I believed that modern techniques would drive better outcomes.
But over time, I learned a powerful truth: even the best therapy plan is useless if the person in front of you isn’t willing or able to engage.

🌱 From First Breath to Last – Movement Defines Our Life

From a toddler taking their first step…
To a teen discovering the thrill of a sprint…
To an older adult regaining balance after a fall-
Movement is not just motion. It’s freedom. It’s identity. It’s dignity.

As healthcare professionals, therapists, and caregivers, it’s our responsibility to honour movement by prescribing it wisely, with compassion, clarity, and clinical intent.

Because movement isn’t just medicine.
It’s memory, it’s meaning, it’s life itself.

Let’s choose to move with precision.
Let’s empower every step, every stretch, every second.

What is Supercompensation in sports science, and why should older adults care?

đź’ˇ Supercompensation is the foundation of effective training
It’s the principle that your body improves not just during exercise, but after it
When you push your body beyond a certain threshold (like reps, weight, or time under tension), it triggers a physiological adaptation
Muscle strengthens, endurance improves, and capacity increases, but only if that stimulus is strong enough

For older adults, this is a game-changer

As we age, maintaining muscle mass, balance, and cardiovascular health becomes critical
But casual movement isn’t enough
🏋️‍♂️ To build strength and resilience, older adults must train with intention, and follow the F**T principle:

✅ Frequency: Train at least 2–3 times a week
✅ Intensity: Aim for a perceived exertion of 6–8 (moderate to hard)
✅ Time: 30–45 minutes per session
âś… Type: Strength training, cardiovascular work, or power-focused exercises

Supercompensation reminds us:
🛑 It’s not just about moving, it’s about progressing
Older adults can build strength, reverse decline, and improve function, but it requires purposeful effort and the right prescription.

When training meets science, longevity becomes powerful.
