Lifting carefully is only half the job.
The real test? Putting it down with the same attention.
Small habits = big protection for your back.

The next time you lift something, focus on good technique when picking up AND when putting it down.

I’m often asked for a good hip stretch. I have two favourites, the 90/90 stretch and the one I show in this video.

I’m not sure where I actually first saw this stretch so if you know, please share. Also, I don’t have a good name for the stretch so let me know in the comments what I could call it.

The stretch is great for your hips, but it’s also really useful as a nice spinal stretch too.

hold each side for up to a minute, making sure you continue to breathe the whole time.

Notice if you feel a difference side to side. My right hip is always a lot stiffer than the left.

Also, if there is pain associated with the stretch, please stop and check with your health professional.

I hope you find this helpful.

P.S. if you would like a video on the 90/90 stretch, let me know and I will make one.

I’ve been working on another keyboard rug. This time Michelangelo.

Keyboard rugs are fun. They are quick to do, and are perfect for practicing.

It’s taking me longer to get the hang of the carving, but I’m finally getting there. I’m able to get much cleaner lines. Still not as good as I would like, but heading in the right direction.

I think my next test piece will be a combination of tufting and my regular painting. I’m not sure how I will do this, but I’m going to give it a go.

When it comes to injury recovery, there is no substitute for usage based reconditioning.

I’ve been working through a study program recently and the presenter mentioned this idea of usage based reconditioning, and it really resonated with me. It put what I usually do in practice into words.

This video is me trying to explain it. Does it make sense to you?

If you really want long term results after an injury, this really is key.

This predictor of longevity really surprised me. Did it surprise you?

Our brains need 2 things to function well … Fuel (Oxygen & glucose) and activation (movement of the body), so it makes sense that how you breathe is vitally important for your body to work well.

When was the last time you practiced or focused on your breathing?

The exercise mentioned in this video is super simple, but is a great place to start. Try a tempo of a 4 second inhale and a 6 second exhale which can really help your body relax.

Let me know in comments if you are commonly breathing into your abdomen or your chest.

P.S. This September we are running a $45 New Patient special where all new patient visits will only be $45 (saving up to $45). If you would like a chiropractic assessment, feel free to DM me or book online through our website www.elevatechiropractic.co.nz

Pain is an alarm 🚨, not a map.

Just because it hurts somewhere, doesn’t always mean the problem started there.

That’s why finding the root cause of the problem is so important.

In practice, we often find that pain is not where the problem is. If you have been struggling with pain, it may be worth looking a little wider to see where it may be coming from.

“Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change” Tony Robbins

I’ll be the first to admit… I’m not great with change.
I like my routine routines. I get comfortable.
But eventually… that comfort stops feeling so comfortable.

Whether it’s your posture, your health, your back injury, or something else, change might feel hard now, but stay ing the same can be harder in the long run.

what’s one change you’ve been putting off?

What do you think of this quote from the great Tony Robbins?

I think it’s pretty accurate, well, at least for me it is.

I always struggle with change, and usually wait until I have to change rather than change because I know it would be the best thing to do.

Do you struggle with change?

Thinking of using a posture support? Make sure you don’t make this mistake.

It might help as a short-term reminder, but it won’t fix your posture on its own.

Posture supports can be useful tools, but real change comes from improving strength, mobility, flexibility, and awareness. Use them as part of a plan, not the whole solution.

In this video, I explained how to get the most out of posture supports, and what to focus on for long-term posture improvement.

don’t just rely on the brace. Build the body behind it.

A little bit about us...

I am a chiropractor, father of 2 beautiful girls, husband and part time artist. My goal is to help people FEEL, MOVE and FUNCTION better. I achieve this through, chiropractic adjustments, exercise/movement prescription and advice. I practice what I preach by getting adjusted, eating well (most of the time) and exercising regularly. We also need to rest and I use my artwork as my way to de-stress.

I like to live by the mantra “Try to move more things, more often”. It is a simple fact that if we all moved a little more and did it regularly, you will be amazed at how good you can feel, and how easy it can be.

I hope to provide lots of useful information, tips and tools that you can use to help your own body feel, move and function better. Watch our videos, read our blogs on our website and most importantly....... try them. I know if you do, your body will thank you for it.
