There's a warning issued in an article released by NZ Herald about an increase of tongue-tied incidence among newborns three-folds. It requires a minor procedure that would help babies latch on to their mums for a feed.
Have a read about tongue-ties.

Tongue tie is a condition that involves a small piece of tissue that connects our tongue to the bottom of the mouth. This is called the lingual (meaning tongue) frenulum, often just called the frenulum. When a baby’s frenulum is short or tight it can stop their tongue from moving properly. This is...

Lowry is part of Heartfelt, a volunteer organisation of professional photographers dedicated to giving the gift of photographic memories to families who have experienced stillbirth or have children with serious or life-threatening illness.

“Beyond all doubt, it’s the most significant thing I will ever do and will ever do with my camera,” Lowry said.

Heartfelt can be found on their page and their free phone number is 0800 583 768.

When Jackie Lowry is called to Hawke's Bay Hospital she knows it won't be a normal shoot.

Greenpeace Aotearoa says that it is deeply concerned about the safety of drinking water in the Ashburton District after close to one in five bore water samples tested for nitrate at the beginning of April exceeded levels linked with blue baby syndrome.

Two samples tested were just over double the level of nitrate permitted in drinking water - a standard set in the 1950s to prevent Blue Baby Syndrome.

To our mothers out there, get vitamin D from the sun to prevent rickets. Stay healthy to give bub a healthier chance in life. ☺

The condition affects children and infants, causes bone deformities and sometimes seizures, and is most often caused by a deficiency of vitamin D or calcium.

The Carosika Collaborative, a research group at Auckland Uni, (named after a 24 week old baby who didn't survive) has now produced new guidelines for those working in the health sector, regarding care for babies being born early. For instance, the cord should not be cut immediately, but only after 60 seconds. This gives a prem baby a 30% greater chance of surviving.

They said the old guidelines were very out of date and reduced the survival chances of many prem babies, especially those born in small centres and regional birth centres.
