✨️What do you want to experience more of this year? 🤔

One thing high on my list for '25 is more time up the peak. I am so fortunate to live close by. At the same time, it's oh so easy to make excuses!

Two things that help get me out the door:

🌻Reminding myself how good this is for my mental health is a great WHY with the resulting endorphins [feel good hormones] my favoured prescription! We need a solid why for when the going gets tough, this helps us get through when 'the voice' tells us every excuse there is!

✔️✔️Having a buddy to check in with makes all the difference.
Thank you Sara Lee for the nudge and encouragement this week to get out there 😀.

There's nothing like going public to hold yourself accountable - what's on your radar for this year, I'd love to hear!

🎄 Let’s Make This Holiday Season about Moments That Truly Matter 🎄

Okay, so I might be sliding in a bit late with this message - your plans might already be in full swing, and commitments locked in. If that's the case, it’s never too late to tweak things a little to make this season feel more like joy and less like juggling!

Traditions can be magical. They bring comfort, connection and a sense of nostalgia along with many warm fuzzies. But let’s be real: they can also leave us feeling stretched, broke, and totally wiped out.

So how about shaking things up a bit this year?

💡 Redefine Traditions
Who says you have to stick to the same thing every year?
Even if you’ve already got plans underway, you can still make little shifts to focus on what sparks joy for you and your loved ones.

🎅 Skip the gift frenzy for a fun Secret Santa or simply spend time together.
🥗 Trade the fancy feast for a relaxed potluck.
❎ Or simply scale back and say “no thanks” to anything that feels like too much this year.

You might find others are on the same page, and a few small changes could bring a big sigh of relief all around. 🌟

Let’s aim for a season that feels fun, easy, and leaves you smiling.

How are you making the festive season work for you this year? I’d love to hear your ideas - drop them below! 👇

What a way to end the week! 🎉

On Friday the 13th (lucky for me!), I found out that my ACC credential renewal with the International Coaching Federation (ICF) has been approved – so I’m all set for another 3 years.

Over the years, I’ve had people ask: “Do you really need to belong to something like that? Is it worth all the effort?”

Here’s my answer:

✅ It keeps me grounded in high standards. Holding an ICF credential means I’m meeting global coaching benchmarks – giving my clients confidence that they’re working with someone who values integrity, ethics, and continuous learning.

✅ It keeps me inspired. Let’s be honest, working for yourself can be a lonely game. Staying connected through peer support and professional development reminds me why I love this work – especially when things get tough.

✅ It keeps me accountable. It’s my commitment to always learn, improve, and show up as the best coach I can be for the people I work with.

A huge shout-out to my NZ peer coaching group – you know who you are! Your wisdom, encouragement, and monthly check-ins make all the difference. I appreciate the accountability and the commitment to show up each month.

Here’s to community and connection and supporting each other along the way. 💛

Feeling the end-of-year crunch? Let’s talk about decision fatigue.
It’s that time of year again - the inbox is mounting up, the to-do list is growing, and suddenly even small decisions (like what’s for dinner) feel overwhelming. Sound familiar?

As we barrel towards December, many are juggling 'life' and work priorities, planning for the holidays, and feel they should be reflecting on the year that’s been, but that's all too hard too. Is it any wonder that emails go unanswered or decisions take a little longer?

Could decision fatigue be playing a part? When we have too much on our plates, our ability to make clear, thoughtful choices takes a hit. We default to avoidance, impulsivity, or plain old exhaustion, with those emails or messages going unanswered and other balls dropped too. This can leave us feeling bad about the situation, adding to the load.

Here’s a quick tip for navigating this season: Simplify where you can.

Simplify Choices: Use routines or pre-made plans (e.g., meal prepping, cook once, eat twice by cooking enough for the next day's lunch or dinner, use food bags for some days, wear similar outfits daily if that's your thing).

Prioritise Decisions: Tune into your body rhythm and how you roll and work this to your advantage. Tackle important decisions early in the day when energy is generally highest [or at your peak time].

Take Breaks: Pause throughout the day to restore mental energy, have a quick walk or stretch and take some deep breaths.

Delegate: Share decision-making responsibilities when possible.

And most importantly, give yourself (and others) some grace.

What do you think? Are you feeling the weight of decision fatigue right now? How are you managing it? I’d love to hear your thoughts! 👇

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I’ve been here.

Sometimes, life nudges us to step back, slow down, and focus on what matters most. Over the past couple of months, I’ve been supporting my husband as he underwent radiotherapy and began his recovery journey. It’s been a time of deep reflection, resilience, and recalibrating priorities.

As I'm reconnecting with my work, I’m reminded of the importance of giving ourselves permission to pause when needed and finding strength in community, kindness and self-care.

To those juggling caregiving, work, and everything in between remember resilience isn’t about doing it all - it’s about knowing when to lean in and when to step back.

I’d love to hear from you: What practices help you stay resilient in challenging times? Let's start a conversation.

Away from home, 4 small walls, raining, feeling like a caged lion.

It's amazing how you can do a total body workout using your body weight in a small space. Squats, lunges, press ups, plank...the list goes on. Throw a couple of exercise bands in your bag and there's even more scope.

What a difference some movement makes for your wellbeing!

Feeling Friday tired? 😴 Has the week’s left you a bit drained?
It’s easy to feel like we’re just crawling to the finish line sometimes.
Let’s flip that and give ourselves credit for what we have done and achieved this week – even if it’s the little things. 👏

Take a moment to reflect and notice all the glimmers of goodness this week, and then be sure to use the weekend to recharge your batteries if yours are feeling low!

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

What an awesome day at the Cape Kidnapper Trail Run on Saturday, the perfect way to wrap up Mental Health Awareness Week here in NZ! 🚶‍♀️

I certainly didn't find it 'a stroll in the park' but a great challenge in an awesome location, with a real sense of achievement at the end.

Exercise is a key part of my own mental health toolkit, and I certainly know when I've veered off course with it. It's awesome to see that research backs this up, showing it's the most effective intervention for improving depression, anxiety, and psychological distress.

It's definitely my 'prescription' for staying well, good to know my lived experience aligns with the science!

If you're curious about the research behind exercise and mental health, Exercise New Zealand has more info in a media release on 18 June 2024.

A massive thank you and shout out to the event organisers Total Sport, Cole Murray Financial Advisers - Mortgages Insurance Investments and all the other amazing sponsors. Events like this simply wouldn’t happen without your support!

Last week I found myself halfway up a bouldering wall, while visiting my son in Melbourne. Bouldering was something I hadn’t tried before, but with a little encouragement, I decided to give it a go. I'm the type that usually likes to feel the security of a harness on me!

It reminded me of how often we face similar situations in our work and life. Whether it's trying something completely new or pushing through a tough situation, resilience is built when we challenge ourselves.

The same lessons apply:
✅ Courage in uncertainty: You don’t always have all the answers or safety nets, but you take the first step anyway.
✅ Growth through discomfort: The real growth happens when we are out of our comfort zones.
✅ The power of encouragement: Sometimes all we need is a nudge from someone who believes in us.

This experience was a fun reminder that trying new things can be an opportunity to strengthen our resilience, both mentally and physically. We always have more in the tank than we give ourselves credit for.
And yes, I did have sore arms a day or two later to remind me I'd done a good workout 💪

What’s one new challenge you’re ready to take on?

This time last week, I was attending the HCANZ Innovative Futures Through Health Coaching Conference in Auckland, and wow - what an awesome couple of days! So many brilliant topics and speakers, there were too many standouts to name!

It reminded me of how my journey began back in 2015, when I first trained as a health coach. Even though I don’t always talk about that aspect of my work, Health Coaching is where it all started. The conference was inspiring and an awesome opportunity to connect with so many like-minded people.

I’m looking forward to applying the insights I gained in my coaching work and workshops over the coming weeks.

👏 👏 A big thank you to the organisers and all the speakers for such a fantastic event!

✨ 📢 And a big shout out to Linda Funnell-Milner and the Health Coaches Australia and New Zealand Association Board for their incredible work in uniting Health & Wellness Coaches across Australia and New Zealand, supporting collaboration with healthcare professionals, and championing a high standard in health and wellness coaching to create a healthier future for all!

🌟 Notice things you do well, no matter how small. 🌟

It’s so easy to get caught up in what’s not going right. Spending time criticising ourselves. Focusing on where we’ve slipped up. Forgetting to celebrate the little wins along the way.

But here’s the thing - those small victories matter. They’re the building blocks of our confidence and resilience. Instead of berating yourself for what didn’t go as planned, how about flipping the script? Let’s start recognising the good, even in the tiniest of moments.

Maybe you tackled a challenging task, or you kept your cool during a stressful situation. Whatever it is, no matter how small, give yourself credit for it. 🌷

And when things don’t go as planned? Take it as a learning opportunity. Maintaining perspective and practicing realistic optimism can change how we see ourselves and the world around us.

So take a moment to appreciate something you did well today and give yourself a big pat on the back! You deserve it!

Why We Can’t Get Rid of the Old Couch… and What It Teaches Us About Sleep and Resilience! 💤🐾

Meet our princess, who seems to have mastered the art of relaxation on our old, trusty couch. We've tried to part with this couch, but let’s be honest—where would she sleep?

This got me thinking about sleep and its critical role in our resilience and overall wellbeing. I’ve spoken with so many people who find sleep elusive, and it’s no wonder—stress, busy schedules, life stages like menopause and even our pets can keep us awake. Yet, without enough quality sleep, our ability to stay resilient, focused, and healthy takes a big hit.

Here are four simple tips to improve your sleep and, in turn, boost your resilience:

⏰ Set a Consistent Sleep Schedule: Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. This helps regulate your body’s internal clock. Set an alarm to go to bed so you don't suddenly find yourself at late o'clock.

📝 Plan for Tomorrow, Today: Before you leave work or in the evening, take a few minutes to jot down your to-do list for the next day. This helps clear your mind, making it easier to relax and fall asleep.

🛌 Create a Bedtime Routine: Wind down with a calming activity—reading, journaling, meditation, gratitude, tapping/EFT or a warm bath. This signals to your brain that it’s time to sleep.

💻 Limit Screen Time Before Bed: The blue light from screens can interfere with your sleep. Aim to power down at least an hour before bedtime.

Remember, making small changes can lead to big improvements in your sleep and, in turn, your resilience.

And who knows, maybe you’ll find yourself as relaxed as our princess on the old couch! 😊

What would you add? What are your favourite tips?
