Important Information

Hato Hone St John staff employed under collective agreements will withdraw labour for the first four hours at the commencement of their shifts starting:

04:00am Tuesday 20 August until 04:00am Wednesday 21 August.

During this time, the safety of our patients remains our focus. You can be assured we have plans in place to provide emergency care during this time.

For all non-emergencies we are asking people to contact their GP or Healthline (0800 611 116) in the first instance.

Remember if you have an emergency, please still dial 111.

If your call is not immediately life threatening, there may be a delay, or you may be asked to self-transport to hospital or a medical clinic if it is considered safe for you to do so.

We want to assure the public that if they need hospital level care, we are here, and our Bay of Islands Hospital emergency department, Maternity Unit and GP after-hours service remains open.

For non-emergency healthcare:

 Phone Healthline on 0800 611 116 for FREE if you’re worried or unsure if you need to access care. Their team includes registered nurses, paramedics and health advisors, all specialists in assessing and advising over the phone.

 If you live rurally, you can ring Ka Ora - phone 0800 252 672 between 5-8pm on weekdays, and 24 hours a day on weekends and public holidays. Your initial nurse consult is free and if needed, you’ll be referred for a virtual (phone or video call) appointment with a doctor. There may be a fee – find out about the service here: www.kaora.co.nz
