Nutrition advice has changed - and honestly - that’s a good thing!
In the US, nutrition guidelines have shifted away from the traditional outdated food pyramid towards a simpler, whole food focussed approach.
Here are a few points I love, through the lens of my HEAL philosophy:
H | Habit
We’ve shifted away from food rules and serving charts towards simple habits built around Low HI Foods.
Low HI = low human interference. Foods that still look like food with minimal or no interference .. something our Grandparents would recognise as food.
E | Eat
Eat foods that were recently alive .. vegetables, fruit, quality protein, healthy fats.
Less packaging.
Less processing.
Less ultra-processed products masquerading as food.
(Side note - let’s stop calling these products ‘food’ and call them out for what they are - ultra processed ‘products’).
A | Accountability
A simple gut friendly check-n .. could this meal be made without a packet?
Yes - you’re on the right track!
L | Lifestyle
Eating closer to nature supports our digestion, energy and hormones.
Not because it’s perfect.
Because our bodies recognise it!!
Let’s try to get back to eating fresh, whole and in season foods.
