Watching my girl come home to herself, to her whakapapa, to her culture, has healed parts of both of us. Her remembering has been my remembering too.

I grew up not being allowed to do kapa haka. I was raised by my pakeha grandparents, and although they meant well, I wasn’t encouraged to know my whakapapa. I didn’t grow up inside my māoritanga at all.

I used to lie about being in kapa haka at school. I’d go to every practice, but never an actual performance, I wasn’t allowed and I had to lie to them so they never found out. Everyone else would rush off proud and held in their mana, and I’d shrink inside myself, embarrassed, convinced I didn’t belong.

Indie lived through four years of being bullied at school. She was emotional, unsure of herself, and carried fear she didn’t know how to express. Everything changed when she came home to her whenua. Something clicked. Something ancient rose up.

She found her place in the world.

From a girl who would cry and panic just receiving a certificate, to this moment today… standing tall, grounded, proud.

She is the epitome of resilience, and I’m so incredibly proud of her.

With everything that’s going on it’s easy to forget that it’s actually the 1 Year Anniversary of Te Hīkoi mō Te Tiriti which saw us come together across Aotearoa, Te Waipounamu and the World from the 11th - 19th of November 2024

want to bring us together again and reignite the power, the beauty and connection that we all created during Te Hīkoi mō Te Tiriti with “let’s flood the feed!”

Each day, posting up photos and videos of the Hīkoi as it moved through the country.

What YOUR invited to do is:
·      POST up your photos or videos of the Hīkoi
·      WRITE a caption about WHY you were part of the movement
·      TAG and HASHTAG

EVERYONE who believes in the promise of te Tiriti o Waitangi; Tangata Whenua, Tangata Moana, Tangata Tiriti, made the movement what it is - THE PEOPLE ARE THE MOVEMENT.

“We marched not just for ourselves, but for those who came before and those still to come.
Our tamariki stood beside us, learning what it means to protect whakapapa with presence”

Rongoā is a gift.

He taonga tuku iho – a treasure passed down through ancestral knowledge.

Rongoā reminds us to slow down, to honour the earth’s timing, to listen to what is already known in our bones.

Kūmarahou + Mānuka tincture 🌿
My go-to rongoā for colds, flu, and chest congestion.

Kūmarahou is one of our most powerful respiratory herbs - it helps clear excess mucus, ease coughs, and support the lungs through colds, flu, bronchitis, or asthma. It also acts as a gentle blood tonic, helping to detoxify the liver, kidneys, and skin.

Mānuka brings its natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties - soothing sore throats and calming the chest while supporting overall immunity.

To make it, I use dried leaves, lightly crushed and packed into a jar, then covered with alcohol for a cold infusion that sits 4–6 weeks.
This slow extraction keeps the plant’s wairua and active properties strong.

Once strained, a few drops under the tongue or in warm water can help the body recover and rebalance naturally.

💾 Save this for when you want to make your own tincture.
