Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist and Equine Acupuncturist

I believe every horse deserves to feel its best whether they are performing at the highest level or a much loved companion. Growing up competing in many different equestrian sports up to international level led me into a career in racing that saw me travel all over the world. I have been lucky enough to work with many different equine therapists over this time which has allowed me to fine tune the exact kind of treatment I want to provide. While working in the UK I chose to qualify in equine sports massage specializing in stress and trigger point therapy. At the same time I completed my level 3 human sports massage certificate. I later went on to gain qualifications in myofascial release, functional posture and acupuncture and am currently in the process of completing a diploma in veterinary nursing. Combining these qualifications with my experience in the equestrian and racing industries has led to the efficient and effective method I use today. I appreciate that no two horses are the same so each session is tailored to your horses needs. Give your horse the Elequine Elite Experience

⭐️Rotorua Peeps⭐️

Due to a series of unfortunate events todays run saw a few clients cancelled, so I’m looking at coming down Saturday 27th to catch up.
There will be a couple of extra spaces available for anyone else wanting to join the list. Flick me a PM to book.

Featuring Spacey (the space saver) saving the day (as much as was possible as at this point I was already running an hour behind 🫣). Turns out when it’s raining I can change a tire in 15 minutes!

💸Preferred Payment Method💸

Introducing Verity my head of finances.
Yes she accepts swipey cards.
Yes she accepts sticky inny cards.
She even takes wavey tappy cards and phones.

I had to do some long winded security update thing the other day so I don’t think she’ll take more money than she’s supposed to or anything scary and scammy like that.

She’s on the job and ready for action.

✨💡How it works: Acupuncture 💡✨

In traditional Chinese medicine it is believed that the body can maintain and heal itself if its energy is in balance. When the energy becomes out of balance that is when disease can occur.

Acupuncture is used to stimulate particular points on the body to “unblock” its energy pathways and bring the bodies overall energy back into balance therefore allowing it to heal itself.

Now if you’re like me you probably want some science to back this up.

Each needle is activating the bodies central nervous system and telling it to produce an inflammatory response. Depending on which point is used dictates where the body initiates that inflammatory response. A Harvard study from 2021 actually found some of these neuron pathways in the brain, specifically the ones related to the lower back and hind limbs, so scientists are well on their way to fully unraveling the science behind the process.

The inflammatory response is made up of chemicals that help to reduce pain and hormones such as endorphins which create a feeling of happiness and relaxation. This is why patients will sometimes become very relaxed almost sleepy during a treatment.

So how can it help horses?

In theory acupuncture can be helpful in treating any inflammatory condition of the body from musculoskeletal conditions to GI and even fertility issues. Some of these include:

🔹kissing spine
🔹SI pain
🔹osteoarthritis
🔹dermatitis
🔹cushings/laminitis
🔹paralysis
🔹ovarian pain

Disclaimer:
I think it’s important to mention that while acupuncture can be helpful in treating lots of things, it is not a miracle and does not replace veterinary treatment.

Hunters bumps and rotated pelvis’s are something I see more often than I’d like and it’s not just in racehorses, I see them in plenty of jumpers and even some ponies. This pathology generally is as a result of repetitive strain (lots of cantering or jumping) or trauma to the pelvis before it’s fused (usually 6-8yrs old).
As the horses don’t usually present technically lame it generally goes undiagnosed and untreated until the symptoms become very severe and retirement is likely the only option.
Take a look at this set of bones by Becks Nairn to give you a better idea of what is going on inside a horse with a rotated pelvis and think about the flow on effect this condition has through the rest of the horses body.
