My current studies have required me to create a health/hauora model, it inspired me to put together what I have called the Puaawai Lotus Wellness model. This model pertains to the many dimensions of the human individual. I wanted to share a brief description of each of the components that together form a holistic approach to our individual and collective well being.
Puaawai Lotus Hauora model.
The Puaawai lotus model has 6 main components related to the individuals inner journey to wellbeing, plus 3 components that relate to the individuals relationship to the external world.
The Lotus represents the individuals growth and evolution, as the petals open they reveal more of the seekers potential expanding its conscious awareness until it becomes self Realised.
The Circle represents the wholeness and unity of creation.
Tinana/Physical body..
The physical body is our vehicle through life, it can be seen as our temple as it houses the most sacred aspects of our being. It is a gift that is not here to purely seek sensory pleasures but fulfil spiritual and material work necessary for our growth. We must be in good health so the body can withstand the time to achieve such fulfilment of our evolution.
Nourishing the physical body with good clean food, practice of good physical hygiene to remove toxins and prevent bacterial inflammation and disease, regular exercise that keeps blood and oxygen flowing, keeping the body mobile and the ability to breathe well and abstaining from indulgence of alcohoI and substance use which can accelerate the entropy of the body.
Mauri/Vital Body..
The vital body is the principle of energy or force that connects to the physical body, when the Mauri is weakened, so too is the physical body. It is the universal energy that is within all living things and connects us energetically and spiritually to all that is around us.
The vital body contains the important energy centres, known as nadis or meridians, the chakras and acupressure points. When the vital energy is able to flow freely through these energy lines we are at optimal health.
Mauri is revitalised through positive energy exchanges, through relationships, being in nature and such harmonious activities that generate a response in the body towards higher levels of feeling and sensing vibrations.
Mauri is connected to breath, we are absolutely dependent on it. Knowledge of how to breathe well is important to the condition of our body, the breath moves energy clearing energy blocks and regenerates the cells in the body. Through breath we can restore our physical body using the life force to heal dis-ease and through rhythmical breathing we can bring ourselves to harmonious vibration to resonate with the frequencies of nature.
Hinengaro/Emotional and Mental bodies..
Here I have put two of the components together, yet they do have different functions but together form our psyche and are related to the psychological aspect of our nature. They make up our perceptions of ourselves and the world stimulated by our external senses, our likes and dislikes our desires and our identification with the ‘me, myself and I’ the Ego. The ego at its base level likes to project onto the world and dwells in its suffering and tends to engage in negative and harmful behaviours , such as addictions, poor eating habits, negative self-image, over identification with the body or mind, indulging in emotional, violent, over-sexualised films and music, gossiping and pointless talk, blame, shame and ill-will and so on, that all effect the mental and emotional well being of our psyche which then effects the vital and physical bodies.
The higher functions of the psyche, is that of receptivity the ability to receive higher knowledge internally and externally, imagination, creativity and developing intuition.
Self-observation, breathing exercises, meditations and karakias/prayers help us to comprehend the ego mind and negative emotional states to navigate the muddy waters of the conditioned mind and to purify and cleanse of conditioned and programmed states.
I include the transmutation of sexual energy, our most potent energy force, by harnessing the creative energy we are able to generate the creative process of self-transformation. This requires self discipline and self responsibility to take ourselves from the lower nature of our psyche to the higher nature towards our true being and harmonise our vibration with the universal energy.
Wairua/Causal body/ Human soul..
Wairua I've related to the human soul, the causal body, from where the divine can express itself. The human soul has lived many lifetimes, returning to the material plane again and again playing out different roles experiences that help the evolution of that individual soul that it may return to source once purified and operates in the knowing of its existence. In the mystic traditions around the world, such as esoteric Christianity, the Jewish mystics of Kabbalah/Zohar, the mystics of Islamic traditions, Buddhism, Yogic and Vedic traditions and others, have the concept of karma, cause and effect, return and recurrence or reincarnation.
This tells us that our wairua has wisdom of the ages as its experienced countless lifetimes. Though on its return falls into the unconscious parts of the psyche playing out the drama of the world again and again until its awakening.
To nourish and purify the soul we can live congruently with universal law, to live with conscience, knowing that every action has an equal reaction.
We can practice discernment between the divine will of the soul and the will of the Ego so we can fulfil the souls purification. Transformation of negative impressions through meditation (Consistent clearing/dissolution of negative experiences and egoic pride.) Sincere recitations of karakia, sincere self study and study of spiritual texts so we can move towards the aroha of Divine Essence.
Divine Aroha/Pure consciousness
Here we meet meet and experience pure consciousness the essence freed from its conditions and shackles of cause and effect. Where the divine mother and divine father are in cosmic union. The force of divine love, returning to the oneness of the infinite. The presence of knowing and of love.
Our Ultimate goal.
Kotahitanga/Whanaungatanga/Kaitiakitanga
These three components I've put together as they relate in relationship of the individuals personal growth process that extends out to the external world.
Kotahitanga gives us the sense of unity, that one is not seperate from the other.. Whanaungatanga encourages us to have fulfilling connections with our fellow humans/Souls and Kaitiakitanga gives us the responsibility of harmonious living. There is a word in Sanskrit “Namaste”- It means I acknowledge the divine in you as it is within me. With this acknowledgement we relate and respond to the world and ourselves around us though we were relating with the divine. We are integral parts of the whole. With this in mind we would live by the unversal laws.. That such as do not harm… Whether we are conscious of it or not we harm ourselves and others all the time. Just the tone of our voice in a bout of frustration or a hateful thought causes vibrations that ripple through our bodies and out into the atmosphere effecting the space around us, it effects the collective, the whole of humanity and influences the natural world around us..We want to cultivate an environment that help us and our fellow humans to live in freedom rather than in slavery of negative forces. We must foster a healing heart that ‘Does no harm”. We all have a right to wellbeing, withdrawing our bad behaviour we give everyone the chance to discover peace.
The growth and evolutionary process of the individual depends on its will, the will to do better, to be in service of the higher aspects of the self, service to others and service to the divine cosmic forces. Our humanity accelerates the process of evolution through the process of self-cultivation.
The Lotus symbolises the journey of the human being rising from the muddy water towards purity growth and self awareness, from darkness to light, ignorance to truth.
