Paths to Stillness

Paths to Stillness A service to cultivate mindfulness: bringing peace, calm, choice and awareness into your life through 1-1 sessions (women) and also beginner workshops (open).

I have been meditating for 17 years and have regularly completed courses in mindfulness training, including the MBSR (Mindfulness based stress reduction) course started by Jon Kabat-Zinn. I have recently taken a certified mindfulness facilitation training course with Mindfulness in NZ. I have been on monastic retreats and enjoy contemplation. I have a Bachelor Applied Social Sciences (Major in Social Work) and studied for two years towards a Bachelor of Arts (Major in Psychology and Feminist Studies). I have worked in the disability and service sector in various paid and voluntary ways. I am also an experienced childcare caregiver and community support worker for high and complex behaviors and needs.

So often in this life we keep busy and keep running in order to not feel what we actually need to feel. When we take the time quiet our mind and tend our hearts, our unsung parts and unprocessed emotions come to the surface to be felt and released. In a world so focused on outer momentum, often stopping that and coming home to the self is the most transformational thing we can do in the long run. From this place we will know how to act with clarity and compassion.

Tara brach renowned psychologist and meditation teacher developed the acronym RAIN I’ve mentioned recently.
The I stands for investigate with curiosity and compassion your innermost feelings and responses if you become stuck in a loop and need to “unhook” from triggers and reactivity. It can work well especially with journaling. I like to use this method as well as listening to poignant music to release bushed tears or memories to “let them go”

The most often turn of phrase is “leaning in” to our struggle… then with gentle compassion accept our present reality… this creates less resistance and provides a space for awareness and compassion.

As much as life gives us things to fear, we can meet them with love and compassion. When we turn towards our fears with this kind of nobility and presence, what once made us run and hide now dissolves in the light of our love. And from this place of dignity, true positive change and transformation of yourself and the world can happen. ❤️‍🔥
