Carly Phillips is a professional counsellor, yoga teacher and space holder. She draws together neuroscience and trauma integration tools with deep compassion to facilitate healing and expansion in the worlds of her individual and couple clients. Carly provides trauma-informed spaces to allow for discovery and integration at a client-led pace so you can once again reclaim your boundaries, power, jo

y and flow. Somatic practices such as yoga, conscious dance and body based therapeutic modalities compliment my more analytic trainings. Relationship counselling is dear to my heart and I love offering this work. Imago relationship therapy (IRT) is one of blamelessness - bringing couple's together through improved communication, empathy and appreciation of each other's differences. Re-romanticising and revisioning your relationship to accommodate your evolution and maturity.

NZ Civil Defence are testing the Emergency Mobile Alert (EMA) system on Sunday 25 May, between 6-7pm ⚠️📲

If you have a hidden second phone for your safety, we recommend turning it off or putting it in flight mode for the duration of the test (6-7pm on Sunday 25 May) to ensure it’s not discovered when the nationwide Emergency Mobile Alert is sent.

Some mobile devices set to silent mode will still emit a sound when the Emergency Mobile Alert test is sent, so switching to flight mode or turning off your device is the only way to avoid the loud sound of the alert.

People pleasing a.k.a Fawning response is a conditioned response that becomes automatic.

In order to get our needs met we had to override our own authentic responses - many of us received messages around not being rude, be a “good” boy/girl etc in situations where we didn’t want to do something e.g give someone a hug.

As adults we can grow up not knowing what it is that WE actually want let alone feeling safe enough to ask for it. Being ok with disappointing others is a huge step toward reclaiming ourselves.

Our nervous systems are super intelligent. Always working to keep us alive.

Fawning is part of this amazing system. Fawning has us saying yes to things we don't really want to do in order to "fit in" - originating out of our need to maintain connection with our caregivers or peers for literal or imagined survival.

It is an incredible resource and in some dangerous situations reduces the potential of escalated violence from perpetrators by obliging to their demands.

Thing is we are not always in dangerous situations.

We don't (usually) have to sit quietly as adults in order to have our needs met. But, often we continue to fawn, avoiding difficult conversations, saying yes when we don't want to go to the thing and appeasing those around us as if we are in threatening situations.

This creates tension in our bodies as we are not being authentic, and, this is the battle we create within ourselves.
