How long do you stew?
Transit time affects nutrient absorption, toxin elimination, microbiome balance and overall gut health. If things are too fast or too slow, it's your sign to book an appointment.
Want to know how long it takes food to move through your digestive system? Try the sesame seed test:
First - have a wash out of one week. Don't eat any sesame seeds in this time. Check your crackers, hamburger buns, bliss balls, and fancy muesli.
Step one: Take 1β2 tablespoons of whole, uncooked white sesame seeds. Donβt grind or chew themβthey need to stay whole.
Step two: Eat the Seeds
Swallow them with water or mix into a meal (like oats or a smoothie). Record the date and time. Ideally first thing in the morning.
Step three: Track the Time
Watch your bowel movements over the next few days. Look for the first appearance of sesame seeds in your stool. That's right, you're watching for Polka dot poo!
Results:
Normal transit time: 12β48 hours
Faster than 12 hours: May indicate rapid transit
Slower than 48 hours: we're looking at sluggish digestion or constipation.
If you aren't sitting in that happy 12-48 hours, then get in touch.
