Something I see over and over in clinic: women coming in with intense period pain, and their belly is actually cold to touch.
In Chinese medicine, warmth is what keeps blood moving.
When the space below the navel is cold, the liver can't move blood freely to the uterus. Things slow down, Qi slows, and pain results.
Cold makes everything harder:
-more cramps
-more stagnation
-depleted qi
-paired with dehydration, undereating, low iron, the pain gets worse.
It's so in right now to have ice cold water, smoothies, and raw food. Over time it can disrupt the cycle length, sometimes making them disappear all together.
Good cycles depend on
-Strong digestion
-Adequate fluids, including blood
-Avoiding cold that slows everything down.
Simple ways to warm your uterus
-Keep the belly covered
-Warm food and drinks - absolutely no cold, especially if you suffer from painful periods
-Nourish with enough food so your body has blood to work with
Your belly should feel warm under your hand - go ahead and test it now.
Warmth = movement. Movement = less pain.
