Kaimahi Kōrero: Tāku Haerenga

Meet Tane Whitehead - one of our new Kaiārahi at Why Ora!

Born and raised in Taranaki, Tane’s journey has taken him from Spotswood College to graduating with First Class Honours at Otago. Along the way, he’s led on and off the field, started a scholarship for Taranaki taiohi, and coached rugby league teams, including helping Niue U17 girls make history at the Pasifika Youth Cup.

Now back home, Tane’s excited to support taiohi to chase their goals and stay connected to their culture.

“Why Ora supported me - now I get to give that same awhi back.”

Today our Why Ora whānau rolled up their sleeves and got out into the community to volunteer for The Giving Tree, an incredible initiative led by the Roderique Hope Trust.

It was awesome to tautoko our whānau in need during this Christmas season. From wrapping gifts and putting care baskets together to sharing smiles and kōrero, every moment reminded us of the power of manaakitanga and community spirit.

The Giving Tree initiative ensures families who are doing it tough can still experience the joy and warmth of Christmas. Being part of this kaupapa was a privilege, and we’re proud to stand alongside others making a real difference in Taranaki.

"Ko te pae tawhiti whāia kia tata, ko te pae tata whakamaua kia tina."
Seek the distant horizons, cherish those you attain.

We’ve chosen this whakataukī as a powerful reminder. Kia moemoeā nui tonu, envision your goals while also taking time to reflect and be grateful for the milestones you’ve already reached.

Every step forward matters. Every achievement deserves recognition. Keep striving, keep growing, and never forget how far you’ve come.
