Loss of intimate connection in aged care: Balancing care, consent and dignity

Maintaining significant intimate relationships in residential care homes can be challenging. New relationships may flourish that may unsettle the expectations of staff, residents and family. Residents' expressions of intimacy and sexuality can be compromised by confusion around staff expectations, the role of the EPA and consent. Dementia adds complexity to this decision-making. Clinical leaders are central in ensuring policies and practice enhance social and sexual belonging and rights. This webinar will help all those involved in the transition to care to balance care, consent and dignity.

Presenters: Catherine Cook and Chris Sinclair

Live webinar: Tuesday 26 August, 1-3pm NZST

Grief literacy: Creating a world that recognises, validates and supports grieving young people

Grief literacy is the capacity to access, process, and use knowledge regarding the experience of loss. Grief in the 14-24-year-old age group is under-researched and grieving young people often don't receive the support or have access to the services they would like. This webinar looks at grief literacy, including in young people, and presents a recent study to find out what young people need to have their grief recognised, validated, and supported.

Presenters: Dr Lauren Breen and Nicholas Payne

Live webinar: Tuesday 19 August, 1pm - 3pm NZST

People living with chronic illness experience a series of often invisible and compounding losses that affect identity, relationships and daily life. While hope for recovery may remain, this may or may not be found, and in addition, the reality of ongoing symptoms can bring uncertainty and emotional distress. This webinar explores how counselling can provide meaningful support by embracing presence, humility and a willingness to ‘not know’. We will examine how to build collaborative, compassionate relationships that help clients make sense of who they are amid disruption and ongoing change.
