Campfire Sauna is open! Come and join us for a hot sit. We have cold showers, changing rooms and a gorgeous chill zone for a sumptuous in-between.

Kia ora, we’re Sally and Malky, two new Paekākāriki residents who want to contribute to the community and bring people together through a ritual we get great pleasure and health benefits from. We came to the sauna idea separately. Sally loved the idea of creating a community asset, while Malcolm had been nurturing a dream of building a floating sauna. As friends, they decided to join dreams to make Campfire Sauna happen. Sally’s background is in social policy research and teaching yoga and dance (Shut Up and Dance). Malcolm’s background is in operational and strategic planning in humanitarian affairs and emergency management. Together they form a delightful team, committed to environmental responsibility, design quality, community development and lighthearted fun.

We’re a year old and still so young!

We’ve been chopping the wood, stoking the fire, and sharing the heat with you for a whole year now. It’s been amazing!

When opening the sauna our goals were to provide a place for people to meet and connect, and to grow a little sauna community in Paekākāriki. Sally and I reasoned that with jobs in the city, we could only do this by getting our community involved.

Winding forward the clock to today, we have the space, we have a group of regulars, and we have guests who always leave with a smile. We have ten paid hosts from our community who lead sessions with their own flair and character, and Sally and I still love what we’re doing!

So, to celebrate all this, we’re throwing open the doors for our birthday party. On Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October from 3-5pm grab your friends and your togs and come experience Campfire Sauna for free.

We’ll be serving up mimosas and platters and would love to see our regulars and a lot of new and curious faces. If you’re sauna shy, this will be a great time to try it out.
