Please note that Kōhungahunga Maternity Unit in Levin will not have an employed midwife available tonight from 7 pm to 7 am, Friday 8th August 2025. If you require pregnancy, labour, or birth care during this time, please reach out to your LMC Midwife as usual - the unit is still available for labour and birth, with the option to receive postnatal care at Te Papaioea Birthing Centre, or Palmerston North Hospital if the unit remains unstaffed following birth of pēpi. If you do not have an LMC Midwife and need assistance, you can contact the core midwife team at Hine te Iwaiwa (Birthing Suite, Palmerston North Hospital) by calling 06 350 8410. Your well-being is our top priority, so feel free to get in touch if you require any support during this period

Wait times at Palmerston North Hospital’s Emergency Department are longer than normal.

We never turn people away from ED when hospital-level care is required but for patients who don't need to be seen urgently, you may wait longer.

We welcomed 155 pēpi into the world — 73 girls and 82 boys, including 3 sets of twins!

📅 The busiest days for deliveries were June 12th, 23rd, and 24th, with 10 pēpi born on each of those days!

🚨 Measles cases confirmed in Wairarapa and Manawatū 🚨

Three new cases of measles have been confirmed — two in Wairarapa and one in Manawatū — bringing the total to 8 cases nationwide. All are linked to earlier cases in Wairarapa connected to recent overseas travel.

Ka Ora rural telecare after-hours 📞
Ka Ora is an after-hours video and over-the-phone service that supports the health of people living in or visiting rural communities.
You will be greeted by a Kaiāwhina or a Nurse, who will assess your health needs for free. You can then either see a clinician directly or you may also choose to schedule an appointment later in the evening.
All appointments are free for tamariki under 14 years old. If you are 14 years old or older and need to speak with a nurse practitioner or doctor, there will be a charge – details of these are on the Ka Ora website
You can speak with the Ka Ora service by calling 0800 252 672.
Ka Ora is open:
• Weekdays overnight from 5pm – 8am
• Weekends and public holidays – 24 hours
