Project Highlight ~ Mountain View Retreat, Wānaka

There’s something special about a home that feels completely grounded in its surroundings.

Designed by Johnston Architects, this retreat uses Jura Grey Limestone to create a natural sense of warmth and continuity, flowing effortlessly between indoor and outdoor spaces. The soft tonal variation of the stone adds depth and texture, helping the home sit quietly within the landscape.

A beautiful example of how thoughtful material choices can shape the entire feel of a project.

We’re looking forward to attending the Home Design Evening by ArchiPro in Auckland this May.

It’s always a great evening to connect with designers, architects and industry partners, and to be part of the wider design conversation.

This year, Tom Webster, architect and host of Grand Designs New Zealand, returns to lead the evening’s discussions.

If you’re attending, we’d love to see you there.

We couldn’t resist sharing a few more moments from our Auckland showroom opening.

A big thank you to everyone involved and to those who joined us on the night. It was fantastic to see the showroom full of conversation, ideas and industry connection.

The evening wouldn’t have come together without the incredible support of the vendors and partners who helped make the night what it was. From the food and drinks to the atmosphere and finishing touches, every detail added to a great celebration of our new space.

Last Thursday we officially opened the doors to our new Quantum showroom, and the turnout made it a night we won’t forget.

Designers, architects, builders, industry partners and international suppliers joined us to celebrate the space, connect with one another and explore the materials that will shape future projects.

The showroom was designed to be more than a display of tiles and stone. It’s a place for ideas to develop, for materials to be experienced properly, and for conversations around design to happen naturally. Seeing the space filled with people from our industry made it clear that it’s already doing exactly what we hoped it would.

It was fantastic to spend the evening catching up with familiar faces, meeting new ones, and sharing what we’ve been working on behind the scenes. A huge thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate with us. Your support means a lot to our team.

If you couldn’t make it on the night, the doors are now open and we’d love to welcome you in.

Here are a few moments from the evening.

This Oratia bathroom and powder room show how thoughtful tile selection can define the mood of a space.

Durrant Designs combined rich green gloss tiles with large format Nativa Vena Aurum to create contrast between intimacy and openness. Fusion Smeraldo introduces texture and depth, while the stone-look flooring keeps the overall palette grounded and timeless.

Two different spaces. One cohesive design language.

We love seeing a project like this come to life, especially when our stone carries right through the entire build. From the interior spaces to the exterior detailing, it creates a seamless sense of continuity that grounds the architecture and connects each area through texture and tone.

It is always rewarding to see a material used so confidently and consistently across a home of this calibre. A true collaboration, and a great example of how natural stone can shape not just the surfaces of a project, but the overall experience of living in it.

This transformation is why materials matter.

From an 80’s corner spa and heavy detailing to a 2023 TIDA Bathrooms Award finalist. Hub Design completely reimagined this Queenstown bathroom while keeping the original timber ceiling to honour the home’s character.

The outdated bath was replaced with a sculptural freestanding bath. The vanity was extended to include double basins for busy family mornings. The shower was widened to work with the sloped ceiling. And throughout, our Unique Travertine Ruled porcelain tiles bring texture, warmth and a refined, stone inspired finish.

Layered lighting and brushed brass elevate the space from practical family bathroom to a calm retreat at the end of the day.

Proof that thoughtful material selection can completely redefine a space while still respecting its roots.

Fireplaces are often treated as secondary elements. This one proves they can be the focal point.

Sage & Nook have used our Fez subway tiles to wrap this fireplace in soft texture and subtle movement, turning it into a striking centrepiece. While subway tiles are commonly seen in kitchens and bathrooms, they are equally suited to living spaces, especially when durability and heat resistance are essential.

It is a reminder that thoughtful material selection can completely reshape how a room feels.

Here’s something we love about the stone and tile industry.

Natural stone has been used in architecture for over 5,000 years, and many of the materials specified today are still finished using techniques that have remained largely unchanged. What has evolved is how designers apply these materials, pushing stone and tile into more creative, refined and sustainable architectural outcomes.

From materials to design thinking, it’s an industry that continues to evolve alongside the way we design and build and we love being a part of it.

Surfaces shape how we experience a space.

From soft, tactile finishes to layered stone and wood textures, materials influence the atmosphere, how light moves, how rooms feel and how we connect with our surroundings. Colour brings warmth or clarity. Texture adds depth and character. Together, they create spaces that feel considered and balanced.

This philosophy sits at the heart of everything we do at Quantum.

Our new Auckland showroom brings to life a curated space made for designers and architects to explore surfaces in real scale, real light and real context.

Great interiors don’t start with furniture, they start with materials.
