Thanks to the amazing generosity of the Lindsay Foundation, Starship’s National Air Ambulance will keep flying for the next three years.
This one-of-a-kind service is a lifeline for children across Aotearoa and the Pacific who need specialist care only available at Starship.

13-year-old Aiden collapsed on the final lap of his school relay race. His heart had stopped. His quick-thinking teachers used a defibrillator to restart his heart and when the ambulance arrived, the paramedics took over.
Aiden had suffered a heart attack and needed urgent medical care. He was transferred from Invercargill to Dunedin Hospital, then flown in the Starship National Air Ambulance to Starship.
He spent a week in Starship’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and another five weeks on 23B, the cardiology ward.
Aiden’s mum JP says she’s grateful to all the Starship staff who cared for Aiden, especially the PICU nurses and doctors, along with the Ward 23B Play Specialists.
“Aiden’s doing much better now” she says. “We’re adjusting to a new normal and although he can no longer play rugby, he’s looking forward to becoming a coach and teaching kids how to play”.

𝐑𝐮𝐛𝐲’𝐬 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐚 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐥 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 🍅💚 This bright, beautiful design with Wallace Cotton celebrates the humble tomato AND supports some of New Zealand's sickest children.

🧵 $6 from each tea towel and $4 from every washcloth set goes directly to the Starship Foundation to help transform cancer care for children in NZ.

Since 2009, Ruby's Tea Towels has raised over $800,000 for Starship, and this year’s tea towel supports the next big step: a cutting-edge Oncology Project that includes Advanced Cell Therapy, a new fellowship for haematology/oncology specialists, and a Bone Marrow Transplant Unit upgrade.

💛 𝐀 𝐇𝐮𝐠𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐚 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞! 💛
We are absolutely blown away by the incredible team at the Rotorua Police Station, who took part in the Starship Big Bake Off — and raised over $7,500 to support sick children across New Zealand! 🎉🍰
Around 16 staff baked up a storm, and many others helped transform their meal room into a magical bake sale space — staying after hours or even coming in on their time off to set everything up. The room looked absolutely stunning, and the community showed up in full force to support the cause. 🙌
They invited colleagues from ACC, the Courts, Oranga Tamariki, MSD, St John’s, and of course, their own station whānau. There was even a raffle in the lead-up to help boost fundraising efforts.
To everyone who baked, set up, donated, or joined in — thank you. Your aroha and community spirit are an inspiration. 💙
The support from Rotorua Police reminds us once again how powerful it is when communities come together to back Starship and help give our tamariki the very best chance at a healthy future.

A huge THANK YOU to All Black legend Keven Mealamu for stepping in at super short notice to be our celebrity judge at the Starship Big Bake Off! 🏉🎉

Keven judged alongside some brave Starship kids and our CEO — no prep needed, just bringing his amazing energy and big heart. 💙

Our incredible nurses took part in this special event, and it was truly heartwarming and fun for everyone involved.

Thanks to the incredible supporters of the Starship Foundation and the Lyon family, this new facility triples the capacity for day treatments — giving kids faster, kinder care without unnecessary hospital stays. The Athlae Lyon Day Stay Unit stands as a lasting tribute to Athlae Lyon’s 14+ years of dedicated support to Starship. Her family’s generosity and passion for children’s health helped make this vital facility a reality — improving care for thousands of tamariki. 🌟❤️ “Every child deserves the best care,” says the Lyon family who attended the opening alongside Minister Simeon Brown MP.

🎉 It’s National Volunteer Week, and we’re sending a massive thank you to the incredible volunteers from & Thompson and Mercury, our Five Star Partners, for their unwavering support of Starship! 🌟
💛 The amazing team at Barfoot & Thompson rolls up their sleeves each month to help unbox, sort, and sticker hundreds of books for our Magic of Reading programme. Running for over 20 years and fully funded by Barfoot & Thompson, this initiative gives a book to every child who spends a night in hospital — a small gesture that brings big smiles during tough times.
🧶 And we can’t forget Mercury’s Knitting Nanas — who lovingly handcraft colourful Santa Sacks for our Christmas gift-packing and knit cozy outfits for our tiniest patients in the NICU.
