Happy 50th birthday to us!! You don’t want to miss this: In the lead-up to Suffrage Day, come celebrate at our Special Community Kōrero with amazing stars Dame Judy McGregor, Assoc Prof Melani Anae and Dr Naomi Simmonds about how wāhine and women have been smashing waves of intersectional feminism, womanism and mana wahine into white patriarchy in Tāmaki Makaurau and beyond, over the last half century. With the ever-wonderful Stacey Morrison at the helm. https://awc.org.nz/50years-korero/

It would be great to see NZ women empowered in this way:

Angela Rayner, the deputy prime minister, said: “The use of NDAs to cover up abuse and harassment is growing – and sadly amongst those in low-income or insecure employment across multiple industries and workplaces. My message is clear: no one should suffer in silence and we will back workers and give survivors the voice that they deserve.”

Exclusive: Changes to workers’ rights bill will prohibit the silencing of staff who suffer harassment or discrimination

This week our Auckland Women’s Centre whānau took some time to get crafty! We were invited to take part in a collaborative art project called “The Hearts of Our Community” - we were given repurposed fabric hearts, beads and all sorts of other crafty delights, to be part of a larger wall display in the workshop of Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre. Lyn-Marie of Dizzie Pixie Designs, who largely works with repurposed materials, is working on a project with the and to create this gorgeous art project. Taking part in this project was such a beautiful reminder of the therapeutic power of art! Check out the wider project on Instagram: - we can't wait to see it all come together!

Happy ! Each Friday, we’re spotlighting the amazing folks powering our movement - like Amanda and her daughter, who joined our Fab500 whānau at the Ladi6 gig (her daughter’s first ever concert! 🎶).

Amanda chose the event as a way to introduce her daughter to feminism in a safe, passionate space, and we’re so grateful they’re helping us build a future rooted in feminism and community. 💜

Amanda kindly agreed to let us share this photo and her message because she wants to help spread the word about our mahi. Got questions about how to sign up? Email our team at info@womenz.org.nz or visit https://awc.org.nz/fab500/

Last Thursday around 250 of us gathered to celebrate 50 years of feminist action.

We were moved by the warmth, kindness, and powerful sense of community that filled the venue that night. Every moment was a reminder why our kaupapa is so important.

To everyone who stopped to chat, thank you! From longtime supporters who were there in the Centre’s early days, to parents introducing their tamariki to feminism. And, those Ladi6 fans who discovered the work of the Women's Centre and signed up to become a regular donor: we see you and we appreciate you.

Regular donations is what powers our action! Small and consistent donations mean we can continue our neighbourhood awhi and nationwide voice for decades to come. Join our Fabulous 500 feminists to support our ongoing act of resistance and solidarity. https://awc.org.nz/fab500/
