Sustainability not only means to think about where our materials come from, but where they will go at the end of their lifetime. Does it contain toxic chemicals? Will it really be recycled? Is it biodegradable in a landfill? Somehow these questions slip our mind in relation to our homes and other products like saunas. We assume they will last forever and so we pass a blind eye to plastics and chemical treatment. Nothing lasts forever and each renovation or demolition reminds us of the surreal amount of non-recyclable, non biodegradable and toxic materials that we use.

Weighing 730kg, the 2-3 person sauna is a solid unit that stands the test of time in the NZ outdoors. Built that same way as a house, to , the walls are fully breathable, allowing moisture to diffuse out while keep the inside warm and dry.

After endless conversations, planning, design, development and review with Robin Curtis, co-founder of Health Based Building, we are proud to bring you a sauna that we are very proud of. Completely free from plastics and chemical treatment, these saunas are built for the New Zealand outdoors, while their elegant design with thermally modified NZ timber makes any space even more beautiful.

From the windows, doors and handles to the benches, everything in the saunas are hand made. This keeps brings the authentic and purpose built nature to every aspect of the saunas, which have been through countless iterations and improvements.

Even though plastic bags are banned in the supermarket, the construction industry uses plastics throughout the entire build process. Our saunas, however, are completely plastic free! We replace traditional plastic weather and vapour barriers with environmentally friendly Magnum Boards. A mineral board made from magnesium oxide that is sustainable sourced from surface mines.
