A gentle reminder about attention and wellbeing…

Our minds are naturally wired with what’s called a negativity bias — we tend to notice and hold onto distressing information more strongly than neutral or positive experiences. This once helped keep us safe, but in today’s world of constant news and updates, it can easily overwhelm the nervous system.

Events like the recent situation in Bondi can understandably activate fear, sadness, or hyper-alertness, even when we’re not directly involved.

Repeated exposure — watching, reading, or scrolling — can keep the body in a subtle state of threat, long after the practical usefulness of that information has passed.

As an act of self-care, you might gently choose to limit or temporarily switch off from news and social media, especially if you notice tension, heaviness, or difficulty settling. This isn’t avoidance — it’s allowing your nervous system time to return to balance.

You can always return to information later, from a calmer and more resourced place. For now, it may be enough to focus on what’s present, safe, and steady in this moment.

Just for the month though ..

In talking about it I actually said I was going home .. my second home perhaps. I def do miss way too much about Aotearoa.

I’ll be busy catching up with as many lovely people as possible but I will have space for:
