Did you know... about magnesium...
60% of Kiwi's and Aussies are deficient in Magnesium. Mg has over 300 functions int he body, including being a co-factor for enzyme needed in the synthesis of neuro-transmiters and hormones, like serotonin ad dopamine (feel good and happy hormones).
Deficiency can show up as sore muscles, poor sleep, nightmares, constipation, anxiety, fidgetiness or tics.
Nuts and grains, bananas, chocolate (aim for 75%+ dark) and avocado are magnesium rich. But you need quite a lot to get you to the required 200-400mg/day!
Children with ADHD need 6mg/kg/day. Adding activated vitamin B6, pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (PLP), can greatly help their ability to focus.
I advise my patients to take Mg glycinate, citrate or theonate. The idea is to take it to bowel tolerance (meaning reduce the dose until stool are firm but soft, not loose). It absorbs wonderfully through the skin, so a cream or magnesium flakes as bath salts works really well.
Magnesium is best taken at night, away from food and other minerals (so not with your Zinc, for instance.)
