Did you know - that from 1st July 2023 - there are no more $5 prescription charges at your pharmacy?

This means that all prescriptions from Gate Pa Medical Centre will be free to collect from any Pharmacy

Charges may still apply for extra services such as blister/sachet packs, delivery or medicines that are not fully covered by the government. Charges may also still apply for other prescribers - such as prescriptions from a specialist you've seen in private.

Remember to ring and order your repeat prescriptions with plenty of time - like when you have 2 weeks left or start the last strip of tablets or your last inhaler. This makes sure you never run out and gives plenty of time in case we need to see you for a check-up first.

Skin infections are super common in our tamariki and you can often stop it progressing or needing antibiotics by doing a "Bleach Bath".

Follow these steps:

- Put a quarter to half a cup of unscented household bleach in the bath water

- Keep the child in the bath for 5 - 10 minutes (stay with the child to make sure they don't drink any of the water)

- After 5- 10 minutes take them out the bath and rinse them in clean water

- If they need creams or lotions, pat their skin dry with a towel and then put on their creams.

- Repeat 2 - 3 times a week.

Do not use the bleach bath if your child has a lot of areas of broken skin - come and see us.

NEW COVID BOOSTER AVAILABLE

There is now an additional Pfizer booster available; it is better targeted against Omicron and is more effective.

You can get this vaccine if you are;
- over 30/high risk patient AND
- it is 6 months since your last covid infection or booster

The best place to get it is the vaccination hub at Fraser Cove (you can just show up!)

WHOOPING COUGH

This very contagious bacterial infection is very dangerous to babies and there have been a few cases in NZ recently.

The best way to protect against this horrible illness which can causes a cough, fevers, difficulty breathing and even death, is through a vaccine. Babies are routinely given the vaccine as part of their childhood immunisation but it also important for pregnant mums to get a booster to give extra immunity to baby.

Chat to us about it and if you are worried, come for an appointment.

Let's talk about scripts and money...

Did you know that once you and your entire household have spent $100 on scripts (that is only 20 medicines between the whole whanau) your scripts are FREE for the rest of the year?

Whilst places like Chemist Warehouse do free scripts, it can be super tempting to buy their tempting deals whilst waiting... and end up spending more money.

Any questions; just ask the friendly pharmacist.

FUNDED VACCINE AVAILABLE!

Shingles is a virus that can cause a painful area of skin, flu like symptoms and a classic rash in one particular part of your body. It can make you feel very unwell.

We have a funded vaccine, called Shingrex, which is available for those in their 65th year; it is given as two separate vaccines a few months apart. What a gift for your 65th birthday!

If you are under 65 and would still like this vaccine, give us a ring to discuss the cost.

Time Frame for Results:

The time frame can vary depending on what test is being completed.

We anticipate that within 4 working days you will get your results.

We do have systems in place that results are seen daily and that urgent ones are acted on as soon as possible.

Please try not to ring to ask for results unless the above time frame has past.

Lab Results:

- we will always phone or text you for the following test results;

1/ All smear tests
2/ All histology (eg when we have removed a skin lesion/done a biopsy)
3/ All abnormal results
4/ All radiological investigations ordered by us eg X-rays, ultrasounds

We do not routinely inform you of normal results or of the outcome of investigations requested by other doctors (not working at Gate Pa).

Charmaine is a comprehensive registered nurse with post graduate qualifications in mental health and addiction. She has over 20 year's experience and her background includes acute mental health and maternal mental health so is keen to meet new māmā's!

She can see people of all ages and at all stages of their lives and help with any type of issue related to behaviour change or mental wellbeing. Appointment are 30 minutes.

You can book directly to see her and she is here every Thursday... but hurry... she is booking VERY QUICKLY!

We have fully funded vaccines for meningitis available for age 13-25.

Meningitis can be a devastating illness and can spread easily amongst young people; especially those living in halls of residence or hostel environments.
