Do you know what I’m passionate about? What gives me energy and makes me come alive? Supporting women to take care of their health, and through them, the health of their families. Nothing lights me up more than creating recipes and sharing tips about the way food can nourish the soul, the mind and the body.

As a trained teacher, and also an extrovert, I can’t help but enjoy sharing what I’m learning with you, as a fellow learner. That’s why I love workshops. We all get tired of the social media stuff - but person to person is what I’m all about.

So if you’re a Bay of Plenty local, come along to my next workshop with . You’ll enjoy a glass of mulled wine, comforting Christmas recipe demonstrations, a few tasters, lots of tips, and some great chats about staying healthy through the holidays. (Including a speedy, yet tasty, scissor salad for one - perfect for mums-on-the-go!)

Send me an email to book your spot xx

I’ve been loving singing Christmas carols ( ) and doing some Christmas baking with a healthy twist this week. The scent of jasmine is in the air (and on my wrist, thanks to ), the garden is flourishing, and I’m spring cleaning like a crazy lady. Bring on the holiday season! This image is of my Traditional Christmas Cake. It’s massive and so so delicious. I am planning on making it soon because the flavour develops over time. Best to enjoy 3 weeks after making in my humble opinion 😍. It’s refined sugar free (apart from the absolutely necessary brandy buttercream icing) and grain free/gluten free. I’ll pop the recipe link in the comments.

Just made these incredible Raspberry Brownie bliss balls by Lauryce and oh.my.word they are good! Incredibly fudgy, sweet but full of wonderfully nutritious ingredients, and so easy to throw together. Lauryce also happens to be one of the most lovely of ladies; super talented in the kitchen whipping up wholesome treats! She is raising money in a kickstarter campaign for her second cookbook - head along and support this clever lady, you will be well rewarded!

Shout out to this guy. He works tirelessly for our family. When he isn’t working hard as a lawyer, he’s looking after us. This weekend he managed to complete our new garden paths (see photo - aren’t they great!), make two loaves of sourdough, process & organise the meat from the deer he shot last weekend (a huge job), do about a million loads of washing... and then he went to work (at work) all day today. So grateful for him. Wouldn’t be half the woman I am without this man.

Sometimes when Emilia is at kindy and Noah is napping I get all tied up in knots; what should I do with this moment in time? Should I bake something? Clean something? Do whatever I want? The incredible freedom to choose what I do in those moments can be paralysing. I get stuck in a vortex. So I have decided to ask myself the following question in those moments, to get my momentum back. Q: What does my family need most? A: a healthy, happy mum/wife. Yes the floor may need mopping, and some days mopping might serve my own mental state too (I mean, who doesn't love to have clean floors?) but other days self-care may look like 30 mins stretching and listening to a podcast, sipping on a hot cacao and calling a friend for a catch up... today, it's the latter. ☕️ 🍫📱👭 And later on today, I'm hosting a wee Mum's group featuring 🍷. Happy friends!

You guys are amazing! It has been so gratifying to see so many entries to the "New Mum Giveaway" (enter on precious post). The best part is knowing that most of you aren't entering for yourselves, but nominating another mother. (Albeit there's no shame in nominating yourselves too!!)

Social media can be fake, dispiriting... oppressive, even. But it holds great power when it is used to be real, honest and relational.

My goal is to be genuine with you; this blog is an overflow of love and lessons learned from my own life, combined with delicious recipes. I hope that I can uplift and inspire, bring beauty and truth into the spotlight, and be myself. I also love learning from you, my readers and friends. So thanks for stopping to say hi or add your 20 cents.

With love from my kitchen to yours,

Emma xx

P.S. Photo taken by the hubby at the farm last week. Let me know if you want the details of the quaint little place we hired!

I do not have the words to aptly express how incredibly taxing yet wondrously joyful welcoming a new baby is. So instead, I will leave you with a powerful quote to ponder. “The most difficult part of birth is the first year afterwards. It is the year of travail – when the soul of a woman must birth the mother inside her. The emotional labor pains of becoming a mother are far greater than the physical pangs of birth; these are the growing surges of your heart as it pushes out selfishness and fear and makes room for sacrifice and love. It is a private and silent birth of the soul, but it is no less holy than the event of childbirth, perhaps it is even more sacred.” – Joy Kusek

We had a fun few days at the farm over the weekend. Biggest blessing? NO phone/internet access! Three whole days digital detox... it was deeply restful. I really must do it more often.

We had a great holiday with our buds from Auckland. It was the stuff memories are made of. Farm strolls, roly polies down hills, the dads hunting for deer, reading on the couch, baths in buckets on the deck, ending the day in our pyjamas in front of the wood burning stove. The spicy hot cacao mix went down a treat, as did the choc chip cookies (let me know if you'd like the recipe?). I hope you had a lovely weekend too! ❤️

PS our wee girl was quite taken with the farmer and his boys! Observing in this photo, but usually running to get involved with all the farm jobs. Atta girl!

Happy weekend all! 🌈☀️🌺💕 The sun is shining here in Tauranga and we are just leaving for a little trip to the Central Plateau! Staying on a farm 🐮 🐑 🦌 with some dear friends of ours that we don't get to see often enough. Emilia was at kindy this morning so I had time to get packed up reeeeally thoroughly. Usually I find getting ready a bit stressful as I like to leave the house nice and tidy but today I had pleeeenty of time 👍🏼 I even made a cacao mixture for hot drinks (not sure if the ratio is right but I guess we'll find out tonight) and premixed Emilia's overnight oats. Oh and made our fave cookies, choc chippies. Fun times! What are you doing this long weekend? Staying home or venturing away? I'd love to know xx

It's incredible how different two days can be. Yesterday was hard slog... My capacity was small. My temper was unstable. My patience was thin. There were clouds on the horizon despite the sunny weather. I was happy to put the day to bed at nightfall and start afresh today.

What was different about today? My capacity was greater, patience a little less thin, and the sun was shining right into my heart.

I'm not sure why that was; two such starkly different experiences of relatively similar days. Mothering, cooking, driving, washing, etc.

I guess that's just life right?
