The Wish 4 Fish Charity

The Wish 4 Fish Charity Access for all! Our country has some of the most beautiful natural resources in the world and we believe all New Zealanders should be able to enjoy this.

We help people with health and wellness challenges get out on the water and enjoy the freedom and pleasure of our ocean waters along with inspiring change in attitude to accessibility and inclusivity across our communities. Fishing and boating are some of New Zealand’s most popular recreational activities, which those with physical and mental disabilities are currently not being catered for. To share these experiences with our wider community, we arrange charity trips for individuals with physical and mental disabilities and their carer’s, who are often family members. The benefits from our trips go beyond a day out on the water. It provides our Charity’s beneficiaries the sense of what can be achieved despite some of the most difficult circumstances they experience. A day out on the water can bring so much joy and can provide our beneficiaries with lifelong memories – we witness this every trip – we call these magic moments. Something significant happens when people are empowered to go fishing. They move from being a beneficiary, to being a provider. This is a fundamental shift in identity, which allows them to not be defined through the lens of their disability or life challenges. When paired with a strong sense of adventure, comradery and achievement, the positive outcomes, excitement and lift in self-esteem is tangible. You can see it in the faces, eyes and body language of those on board.

19 years ago on the Wellington Waterfront........ This is where is all began.
Bryce our founder misjudged a dive into the water and broke his neck becoming a C4 Tetraplegic. Bryce was told he would never fish again, but he wasn't going to let that stop him. He made it his vision to build a fully accessible boat so he and others with chronic health conditions can enjoy getting out on the ocean.

This week we reached out to our community with an honest update. Unexpected and essential maintenance on our accessible vessel has cost over $50,000, depleting our operational reserves.

This means that without urgent support, Wish 4 Fish will need to pause all operations from 10 December 2025.

📡 AIS & GPS Navigation: Our Automatic Identification System and GPS ensure we’re always visible and accurately positioned, keeping our guests safe and helping us navigate to the best fishing spots and home again.

⚓ SeaZone Electrical Control System: From one central touchscreen, the skipper can control pumps, lights, and electrical systems across the entire vessel, keeping everything running smoothly and efficiently.

⚓ FLIR Thermal Camera System: This smart camera can automatically track a person overboard, keeping them in view so the skipper can respond fast and safely.

🎮 Dockmate Remote Control System: This handheld device lets the skipper control the boat’s engines, steering, and thrusters from anywhere on board, making docking and anchoring a breeze.

Every system on our helm is designed to keep guests safe, comfortable, and connected while exploring the ocean 💙🌊
